WildBill,

Right you are.

However, the color description doesn't tell us how rust resistant it is or isn't...

If the "black matte" finish isn't the equivalent of tenifer - fugeddaboudit!

If of course, it is the equal of such, then I'll be in line to buy one of these delightful puppies.

I always thought "matte black" was a negative color or sorts, not a finish type.

So, now I have a research project, sigh...
Black is the color. "Matte" refers to a dull or surface that is not smooth or shiny. Most people prefer this type of finish on guns because it doesn't reflect light as much as a shiny or smooth surface.

A matte finish could be anything from bead blasting, paint, plating, anodize, etc.
Correct.

Glock's tenifer finish and parkerizing are both matte black finishes, as are some of the duracote, cerakote, and similar coatings.

Matte black tells you the color and light reflectance, but doesn't tell you the finish process which is what you really need to know to evaluate durability and rust resistance.

I'm the first on the list for this one when it hits my LGS...looking forward to it.

It reminded me of the toy guns we had as kids that shot those discs

Seemingly good, thorough, unbiased review of the new Remington R51 ("seemingly" because I've never seen the gun myself and have no frame of reference). He apparently found some like sand a few concerning dislikes about it.

To me, I'd say it goes beyond "concerning." They're the kind of safety issues that would make me actively discourage new shooters from this gun.

Just sayin'...Robert Farago is the publisher of TheTruthAboutGuns blog. He got on ShotgunWorld some time back and asked for help learning about shotguns because he was a "newbie" and needed to learn everything FAST. Several members with professional experience and credentials tried to assist him. Did not work out so well. Seemed he claimed he already knew everything. The consensus opinion then and now was/is that he is something of a self-appointed expert. Not saying you should dismiss everything, just have the salt shaker close by. I kinda like what I see in the R51. I might be able to replace my clunky old Bernardelli :hurry:

Farago didn't write that particular review

The more I read about this pistol, the more I want one...bad. However, after paying my property taxes and anticipating what I'll be paying in income taxes, I will have to wait a while. I'm working on my wife already for a Christma-birthda-versary combo gift.

Let us know who it works when you get it.

Can you link to that thread? Seems a wee bit hard to swallow that a guy would say, "Can you help me?", then turn around and say, "I already know everything." Something's rotten in Denmark.
