I was running around town about an hour ago listening to Diane Rehm 0n NPR interviewing a panel of doctors about what should be done during an annual check up . There were all kinds of questions the doctors said to ask to check the patient as to their physiological well being . A lady doctor said a patient should be asked if they had guns in the home . So I suppose some doctors may actually be doing this ?

About 3 or 4 years ago, went to a new pediatrician for our little one. They had a ton of forms including one with questions about guns in the home, car seats, child safety locks on cabinets etc. and other non medical questions. I didn't turn in that form as I thought all the questions on this form were none of their business. Before we left I was asked about it and I said they do not need to know any of that information. She said she had to have the form in our records and said she would put refused to answer on it.

We liked the doctor, but we've since moved. The doctor and facility are part of a larger group of doctors, so it was a corporate policy. I believe this company is very sympathetic to the AMA anti-gun position.

Now I like the chl welcome. Even though I can carry into my Dr., just to avoid any alarm or problem, I would leave my gun locked in my car when I went in. I would feel much better and appreciate the Dr proactively letting me know there is not going to be any surprise or concern. If he posted a sign like that, I'd be comfortable with weighing my holstered pistol so it would be subtracted from my weight.

I could always let a dr know and/or ask about his feelings but I'd much prefer to not even broach the subject.

I've never been asked and doubt I ever will be by my main doctor, an adult lifetime friend of my father who was also a doctor. For allergies I always say I'm allergic to sharp pointy metal objects and leave it at that. For any other doctor/nurse that might ask about guns I'd probably say something like 'in the 50 years my dad practiced medicine and discussed it with us it was made abundantly clear firearms are not pertinent to medical care unless discharged while pointing at you so thankfully the question doesn't apply to me' or similar.

Last time I saw my doctor I bought a chance on a drawing for their church youth program for $50.00 . They were drawing for a gun every month for a year and no I haven't won but Last drawing is in August .
