Does anyone else name their guns?

Over time, I have named some of my holdings. My Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 has always been "Thumper". My Remington LTR with its Leupold MilDot Tactical in .308 is named AT&T - it can reach out and touch something ... way out there. My Bushmaster is simply Bushy. My 1911 is Old Ironsides. My G30 is Baby Heuey. My Remington 870 that sleeps with me is simply Expresso. I don't have permanent names for my other long guns or handguns, except Trusty - like my d/c G23/32 or my BUG G33/27 or any of the others.

I have an Israeli friend (Police/EOD) who named his "AT&T", I think it was an Winchester, "Whisper" (translation)...But it sounded so much better in Hebrew...He's been a little busy lately...Maybe I can get him to send me the literal Hebrew name...

I wouldn't mind going to war with my Marlin though...But thats just a silly pipe dream...

I don't name my: Guitars (I have 5, and they are AS personal as a handgun)
Handguns (current tally at 3)
or mah Truck.

just seems a little odd to personify these things.

I don't name all my guns, because I'd run out of names.

Some of the collectibles, though, do get names. My first Lee-Enfield is "Maggie" (my great-grandmother's name, and it was inherited from her son to my dad, and then my dad to me). My "Irish Contract" No.4 Mk.2 is "Fiona". My East German Makarov is "Helga" because... well. Others had monikers applied based on country of origin, but none of them particularly stuck.

Our van (a 2000 GMC TrailMaster conversion van) is "Pig". Not just for the obvious reason, but because when we finally picked her up, we went on a quick 200 mile round trip. When we pulled back into the driveway, my lovely bride asked what I thought. I patted the dash and said, "That'll do." And we both broke out laughing, from the reference to one of our favorite movies, "Babe": "That'll do, pig. That'll do."

Not to mention, the van is screamin' Razorback Red, and has a stuffed Razorback (named "Snort") on the dashboard. With an eye patch, because our 4 year old pulled an eye out and lost it. We eventually found the eye, but kept the patch, just because he looks tougher that way.

When we debated long and hard about whether to buy a travel trailer, we got a good offer from McClain's in Rockwall. We took the exit, which was labeled "Fate --->". We looked at each other and said, "Well, I guess we know what we'll name the trailer!"

My wife's Kimber is named Kimberly, and she has a new 9mm that she can't decide on the name yet...seems she hasn't shot it enough yet for it's "personality" to come out

Thanks for the kudos. I bet "Talks a Lot" takes some serious money from your wallet in terms of .223 meals.

The Marlin is capable of going to battle stations so it doesn't have to be a pipe dream. The Marlin in 45-70 using Garret 540 grain Hammerhead ammunition recently took down the Big 6 in Africa - one shot stops. I've used Garret ammo and love it. I also load my own to similar specs.

Eleazar

means "God has helped"

Eleazar is mentioned twice in the Old Testament. He was "No. 2" of the 3 "Mighty Men" of David's army. Although they are only mentioned by name twice, the Bible makes it very clear that they were fearless, loyal, and could single-handedly create bodycounts of far greater numbers than ficticious characters of The Terminator, Die Hard, and 24 series combined!

2Sa 23:9-10
The next one of the Three Warriors was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite. One time when the Philistines were at war with Israel, he and David dared the Philistines to fight them. Every one of the Israelite soldiers turned and ran, except Eleazar.
He killed Philistines until his hand was cramped, and he couldn't let go of his sword. When Eleazar finished, all the Israelite troops had to do was come back and take the enemies' weapons and armor. The LORD gave Israel a great victory that day.

One of the best sermons I ever heard was on Eleazar. Summed it up with, "If a Dodo can do it, so can you!"

BTW, it was a good instance of deadly force in a case of agricultural trespass, and destruction of crops.

I do not have names affixed to my weapons. I have on occasion called several of them some names. Particularly when they were having a hard day at the range inspite of all I could do to make them shoot straight. Usually the names I used were non-complimentary.
