That is a great transfer fee, but unfortunately being in Katy area that would make it a 2.5 hour drive RT, and with Houston traffic I'd pay the extra $15 to not make that trip!

Then go to the link I posted. Many Houston FFL's doing transfers for $20, some for $15.

Note: Not living in the Houston area I really have no idea exactly where Katy is....I just know it's somewhere down yonder, somewhere.

Been there, done that. None of those are close to anyone living up on the Northern end, and the ones up there charge more. Makes me want to get a FFL as there would probably be lots of folks wanting a lower fee up in this area.

I guess that begs the question - what does everyone pay for transfer fees in the Houston area? My FFL charges me $25 per transfer.

The biggest and most popular LGS charges $45 and a popular but small LGS is $44. There's another one I don't really care for that charges $30. Another place I purchased a gun from said they charge $100. I don't think they wanted to be bothered with it or wanted you to buy from them. A lot of money for making a phone call and storing paperwork. Most don't even make the phone call if you have a CHL.
To me anything over $25 is too much.

Live in North Texas. Previously bought used guns through texasguntraders but they changed their search engine and can't find anything by zip now. Local Academy will not let you rack and dry fire anything so trigger pull and feel of gun is out. Local gun store is new and great and has a good supply of reloading supplies and that's where I now go. They let you fully examine gun. Gun shows locally tend to be way overpriced and again you can't rack the slide or feel trigger pull. My CHL instructor did my last FFL transfer at no charge for an AK but I believe he normally charges $10.

I've recently moved from Atlanta, GA. Just up the road was Cherokee Gun & Pawn. Free FFL transfers. Have not found a place like that yet in Texas.

Lanbo's Armory is my guy. He went out of his way to locate a pair of hard to find CZ-452 American's for my boys birthdays. Good people, good prices.

The last few I've bought have come from Pyramyd Air.com.

If any of you live in the DFW area; I'd strongly suggest you check out GRABAGUN. They have great prices and a good selection. Here is the kicker... If you are local, they have a store front in Coppell where they keep a fair amount of inventory and if they don't have what you want they can get it there in just a few days. By using them you get to circumvent the inconvenient additional costs of shipping and transfer fees.

To be honest, the guys I've dealt with there have all been very professional and nice to chat with, it is a very no nonsense buying experience with great prices... I buy from them almost exclusively.

Thanks for sharing this one - fairly convenient for me and his pricing at least on H&K is comparable to Gunbroker.

I've bought 2 guns from the Carter's Country in Pasadena, 1 from Academy, and 2 from gun shows. Other than the all in one aspect, I'm finding gun shows less appealing. I prefer Carter's for the overall experience - knowledgeable staff, decent prices, and quick transactions.

I've been talking with the guys at Battleground Firearms in LaPorte. If their gunsmith work is quality and their prices aren't too far off from Carter's, they may start getting my business.

I haven't had any experience using an FFL. So no help there. But I have seen a couple of the local pawn shops in Deer Park offer $15 transfer for chls.

I've bought most of mine from 2 different LGS's. I've bought 3 or 4 from Academy when they've had a sale on one I wanted. I've only ever bought 1 at a gun show. They're usually way over priced but I did find a really good deal on one recently that I just couldn't pass up.

I stop at the local Cabela and Gander Mountain stores from time to time but haven't bought a gun from either. I'll get cleaning supplies or ammo from them, but the LGS's are usually a decent amount cheaper on the same gun. I haven't ventured into buying online yet. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I like to hold a gun before I buy it.

I like Houston Gun Shop on 1960 in Atascocita. I had a replacement Bodyguard 380 sent from S&W and they weren't going to charge me a FFL fee. I insisted on paying them. They were extremely nice. I like their prices better than Carter's.

Whenever I have something I'm interested in, I check online at Budsgunshop.com. I let the owner at the LGS know what price I can get it for, he checks with his wholesaler and let's me know of he can beat Bud's or not.

He's happy either way, he has told me that profit vs time is generally better on transfers than for sales. He's $25, and I would rather maintain a good relationship with the shop than search around for discount transfers.

Mostly online and have transfer done through a friend with FFL for free. My last two were a 1911 from Osage County Guns and a lower receiver from Brownells.

Usually gun shows. Whoever is cheapest. I basically only buy from collectors firearms as a LGS buy if the price is right and they certainly aren't perfect, but better then most stores in Houston. Their is quite a few LGS in Houston I refuse to do business with.

Impact Arms, out of UTAH, Melisa takes care of me , I have purchased 4 new firearms in the last 2 months from them . Very nice and easy to work with.
