Abraham, did you read the rest of my post? OF COURSE I believe my religion is better, but have you seen me call for the beheading of anyone who disagrees with me? Have you seen me call for holy war on behalf of mine? Have you seen me call for throwing gays off of buildings? Of course not. So my attitude is NOT going to cause any wars. Why? Because I'm unwilling to kill someone because they reject Christ. In fact, Christ would condemn such thinking.....while STILL saying that His way is the only way. Beiruty, who is a friend of mine, is a passionately believing Sunni Muslim who believes that his religion is better than mine (or yours). I know Wiccan's who believe that theirs is better than either mine or Beiruty's. And I know Bahais who would say the same thing about the rest of us. But the difference between me, Beiruty, the Wiccan's, and the Bahai that I mentioned on the one hand, and violent Islamist terrorists on the other hand, is that none of us thinks that God wants us to kill anyone who rejects our different faiths.Abraham wrote:TAM,
"...I sincerely believe that my religion is better than Islam."
That's exactly what every religion believes, whether Catholic/Protestant/Jew/Mormon/Cargo Cult and on and on.
And, the angry emotions stirred up by the attitude of "My religion is better than yours" has caused wars for centuries.
I am fairly certain that Beiruty would agree with what I've said here. He passionately holds to his Muslim faith. I KNOW this because I've sat down to dinner with him and listened to what he said about it. He also passionately supports the 1st Amendment, and my right under that Amendment to worship God as I see fit, and your right to worship (or not worship) the god of your choice. Beiruty's brand of Islam is no threat to your rights or mine.
Apropos this thread, that's at the heart of why I think it was a callous error for this group to demonstrate with guns in front of that mosque. They have no clue at all what sort of muslims are worshipping in there - people who, like Beiruty, support and defend your rights and a secular government, or people who are antagonistic to constitutional government. No idea at all. They found a mosque to use as the big boogyman, and they showed up. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
