Thanks, we'll look into those. We've decided to take the kids down next time in a few months for a longer stay. Here's a pic of the twister we passed on the way.....I think it was in S. Houston but I'm not sure.....it was raining so hard, we missed it touching down and couldn't see more than 50yds in front of us. The locals in Galveston said there were two waterspouts that came ashore Thurs. This is some storm season we're having!!!
Kemah is a definite must-see. We really enjoyed it and it was great for an evening out. Great to see that 30.06 signs were not visible anywhere during our entire stay. That's a definite plus for me when traveling. I did realize that I need a way to secure my pistol in the vehicle so that even if someone were to get in, it could be locked securely so it couldn't be stolen or accessed. Working on a solution for that now.

Age Ranger,
That is indeed a great picture! I have been through two tornado experiences personallly, but have never seen one live. Both times it was raining too hard and the wind was blowing too much to see anything. Not that I want to bring hard ship on myself or anyone else, but I would like to see a twister myself with my own two eyes before I die.

Sorry Joe, but that is like walking through a
"Terminal" to get on an Airplane. It is what it is.
I will just like the "picture."

I know what you mean I always felt the same way. As I was coming home to Galveston Thursday I saw a water spout. Although I had seen a few funnel clouds it was the first tornado I ever saw. I saw it from the causeway and it looked like it was between Pelican Island and Texas City. Was just a twisted thread really. But the sun was shinning and visability was crystal clear. I finally got to see one.

A tornado hit our house a few years ago, two days before Christmas of all times. They do really weird things.
This particular one picked up my neighbors' trampoline and dragged it over my roof, but the styrofoam targets he uses for practicing with his bow were unmoved. (They were a few feet from the trampoline before the storm.)
Some of my shingles were laying in perfect circular patterns on the ground, but our vehicles were untouched.
The house shook, the lights blinked, and I never lost phone service. (In fact, I was talking to Daddy when it hit.) I spent Christmas Eve that year on the phone with the insurance company, but Santa did bring me a new roof!

Carlson1,
I really didn't mean that I wanted to see the twister and have it be the LAST thing I see before going to glory!!

We had a GREAT trip, but man is it ever HUMID in Galveston. We stayed at Jamaica Beach RV Resort. It just opened and is not completely finished but we liked it alot. If you are an RV'er I reccomend it over the options in the area. We ate a Willy G's and that was good. Galveston was very carry friendly. Only time I did not carry was to Johnson Space Center. Our 3 year old LOVED that experience. Thanks for all the tip. I wish we had more time there.

Stainless guns and a thin film of oil is a good idea here.

I'm only guessing but I believe NASA would be off limits as well?
Definitely humid and carrying IWB is pretty hot and sweaty.....one thing I didn't pack this last time that I will be sure to take next time is some oil and a rag......maybe some spray lube or something. Never hurts........

IIRC from my trip last year you can carry in the NASA exhibit, but can't when you take the tram around the complex.

Better confirm that before you go. ISTR a "no weapons" sign at the parking lot entrance, but that was years ago.
It is a federal facility and does not have to follow state law.
The phone number is 281-244-2100.

No weapons of any kind allowed at Johnson Space Center. There was a contract security person screening and he did in fact ask. I had to return my OC and knife to the truck. There are no metal detector at the gates and they only check bags. So you could slip through. But to take the tram tours you will go through metal detectors and be screened by armed NASA security personnel. So I would err on not carrying there.

After reading this thread I did not see where is specifically said that Moody Gardens was 30.06. Can someone please confirm as we are supposed to go there for the Festival of Lights.
Thanks!
