Good post by flintknapper adding much value to the thread. As an aside, I have a half dozen or so different DeSantis thumb break holsters for various pistols - they all have the reinforced thumb break.

I'm not in the maker for a leather with thumb break so I'm throwing this as something to consider with "strap trap"
Headgehog leather works makes custom knife sheaths that utilizes a small bungee cord to pull open is straps when it's unsnapped. You can kind of see it the 5th photo. I have one of his sheaths and they work really well. I showed it a leatherman who thought it'd be great for calf roapers he make gear for
