Want your opinion.... I have asked my dad to consider not taking a position on this and not having signs of any kind. We were told by our association that greater than 90% of the dealers were doing what we did and that's why we did it. I told my dad that in all of the years we have been in business that I have never seen a person come into any of our stores with an open carry.... That is really the issue, however for whatever reason we have always had a no carry policy on the property. So if I can convince him of that, I would rather take the Switzerland approach and not post signs.... Just looking for your feedback on this. We recognize that gun owners can be very passionate about this but the same goes for non gun people... Let me know your thoughts and thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention. Jason
Not sure, but this is what I would respond with.

Do you have signs saying "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service?" or "No Outside Food or Drink?" How about "No Skateboards Inside?"

Probable answer to those is no, as they do not have any customers doing those things and it does not cause the dealership a problem. So how about take down the guns signs unless it becomes a problem?

90% posting might not see a measurable decline in business, but the 10% who do not post signs will probably notice an increase.

Just a suggestion - as the person you are dealing with probably believes the conversation he is having with you is private, I doubt he would want part of that last communication posted on a public forum. I would suggest deleting portions of it.

:thumbs2:

Fair enough, although I have not posted all of our exchange here. That said, both the owner and the GM knew I was discussing this with others.

I have been unable to find it but I believe I read somewhere that businesses that do not prohibit carrying by LTC holders face no liability should an incident occur. I have a feeling that this was more of a response to propaganda from MDA and their cronies. They contacted most governing organizations and convinced them that both signs had to be displayed to prevent the businesses from being overrun by crazy gun toting nuts bent on shooting everything in sight.
Perhaps Charles Cotton can locate the exact verbiage regarding the liability exclusion.

Good Morning All,

This morning I got a call from the Autonation Chevrolet dealer in south Houston. It was in response to my Email about the 30.06 30.07 signs they posted. He was telling me that his location as well as an Austin location are fighting against the 30.06 sign. He also told me that even though the 30.06 was posted that they would not say anything if cc. However I told him the law is the law and I must abide by it. Hopefully they take down the sign.

I received that same response from the manager at the Lewisville Nissan. I wonder if qualifies as written permission to CC.
