My glocks and bought the ruger SR1911. I love this pistol it is fantastic. Trigger is amazing shoots great and first time out at forty yards I was nailing the 8 inch steel plate. The novaks sights that it comes with are outstanding. Some g about a 1911 makes you smile and feel like you can take on the world! I am proud to own one!
I hear ya loud and clear my friend. This is what took the place of my G27 EDC...

Very nice Ryan.

This is definitely not a zero-sum game for me.
I have the SR1911 and a few Glocks.
I've been eyeing an STi Guardian for quite a while now.
I love my G19 and its capacity as well as the "not worried about damaging or losing it" vs. a nice 1911. That makes carrying it the first choice most of the time, BUT there are times that I just love the SR1911 as my carry. I definitely enjoy shooting both almost equally but for different reasons.
We CAN have our pie and eat it too!

My father-in-law is building some grips for my SR1911. They are made out of mesquite with a little turquoise colored rock inlaid in the crack. I'm going to try to add a picture to this post if I can figure it out.

I have a 5" Springfield Loaded with a Magrips "mag-well" and a nice trigger job. I suppose it's a BBQ gun, except that it is kind of purposeful looking.
I used to own this one, but sold it to PBratton:
I used to own this one, but it was a treacherous unreliable skank, and I traded it in for the above Kimber:
I still own this 1943 Ithaca 1911A1 which was my dad's sidearm in WW2:
And I still own this Springfield Loaded mentioned above (pictured before adding Magrips):
So Yeah...... I
get the 1911 mystique, but what you said about being worried about damage or loss is absolutely true about me too. I expect that, even with a righteous shooting, the police will confiscate my handgun at least temporarily. There is always the possibility that the confiscating agency is employing someone who thinks that my gun would look good in his safe, or that I shouldn't have it back, or whatever. I would rather lose a $500+ Glock, than a $1,000+ 1911.

Thats the painful part isn't it? Cant get a respectable 1911 for less than that, then we dont even want to carry it!

Since everyone is posting pics of their kids, here's mine. Series 80 MK IV Commander bought in the early 90s. Series 80 M1991A1 bought last year, this one is my wife's. Neither has every had an issue. Although both could stand a trigger job, typical stock Colt heavy trigger pull.

Nice Al Mar folder, TAM - I have one similar but with ivory micarta scales

Yeah, but..... You know reliability not considered, a 1100 dollar 1911 has noticeable differences between a 450 dollar 1911. That's not to say either are not great weapons, you lay a Dan Wesson next to a Rock island, you're going to notice the difference. Point being, you have to spend so much on a nice 1911 and then it stays at home!
I'll just add, out of my 3, the RIA has been a blast to shoot and problem free.

You and I think alike.

Why worry about losing your weapons? If it works well, use it. Why settle for less?

picked up my week old SW 1911 PC from the gunsmith, he said he fired 10 round as it was and had two failures. He installed a longer Ed Brown ejector and ran 20 problem free rounds through it. Crossing my fingers...

The light is slowly dimming. 2 grand worth of my first 1911s and I'm still having issues. My performance center 1911 is going back to S&W tomorrow, still having the weird ejection issue. I've check everything I can and had a gun smith try the Ed brown ejector, can't figure it out. I didn't have him "tune" the external extractor since its holding on to the cartridge nice and firm so it's going back. I'm guessing extractor clocking possibly, it's not hanging onto to case despite being tight.
RIA 9mm ran strong on its second trip to the range however.
