The words "truck gun" have different meanings depending on location. When folks in an urban area talk about a truck gun, or trunk gun, they are talking about a defensive rifle. Out on a farm, the truck gun is used for critters... personally, my truck gun was a Marlin .30-30. It was up to the task no matter what critter I came across.
cmgee67 wrote:And if I had to I could use to defend myself. This is not a self defense rifle but basically an OSR ( oh _______ rifle ).
Agree. Could be used for defense, if need be.
cmgee67 wrote:And adults can handle the recoil of an AR but not all of them. My fiancé who is 115lbs soaking wet can't shoot the AR well because it kicks but she can shoot the 22 in the same hole rapidly. So carrying a big gun isn't about the man card. Sometimes a smaller option is ok.
I'm sorry, but if the fiance can't handle the recoil of the AR, then something else is wrong. I bet it is more noise related than physical recoil. I've seen children as young as 7 and 8 yrs old handle ARs.

So there is a pro to the .22lr over the AR... much less noise.
cmgee67 wrote:And a Ruger Bx mag holds 25 ok?? They can snap together so you have 50'rounds really quick.
Yep, just like AR mags can be taped together in a similar fashion.

cmgee67 wrote: Rim fire is not as reliable but using quality ammo makes a big difference.
True, but even high quality .22lr ammunition is prone to misfire more than surplus 5.56mm.
cmgee67 wrote:This is all a matter of opinions. I personally wouldn't want to get shot with anything.
Agree.
cmgee67 wrote: A buddy of mine told me his friend was a Deputy in Arkansas and got shot with a 22 in the abdomen the bullet bounced around and lodged in His heart killing him.
Don't doubt this one bit. A .22lr can be lethal. However, I bet that deputy was able to return fire, and quite possibly died at the hospital. If I am in a defensive shooting, I want to stop the threat ASAP. I want them down without the ability to return fire.

Personally, I enjoy a good discussion and debate... that is what a "discussion forum" is all about, right? Be kinda boring if we all had the same opinion! :thumbs2:

Nothing is wrong if she can't handle an Ar. I have seen kids shoot it as well. She doesn't like the way it kicks and it scares her a little bit so she chooses the 22. She can shoot the AR and has before but doesn't like how loud it is but the funny thing is she shoots my glock 21 and likes it lol. Everybody is different nobody is the same. I enjoy a good discussion as well. It's always good to jabber a bit! Good thing is people on here for the most part keep it civilized because you know one day I could rely on you to save my tail you never know.
I only own two handguns that are unpleasant to shoot due to recoil. One is my S&W .357 airweight which weighs in at less than 12 ounces, and the other is my Kel-Tec P3AT chambered in .380. So I would say that the recoil on those bothers me. But I wouldn't think about the recoil at all if I was reaching for either of these guns in a real life situation. There is a difference between being bothered by recoil (or noise) and not being able to handle a weapon due to recoil (or noise). I think you are clarifying that she can handle the AR but prefers to shoot other weapons if given the choice.

No longer that price but they are good little truck guns, have always worked well, store into a floatable nothing and are fun to shoot.
Where did you see that? I'm looking at the Atwoods.com web site and don't see an ad for it. I'm driving past the store in Waco tomorrow and would stop if they have them there.
I got an email Monday from Atwoods and you could go to their website and see Wednesdays sales. They call it their sneak peak. $239.99 starting tomorrow.

Hope this helps. The link is rather long. I don't think you can get it from their regular website.

With the 22lr kit it runs like a mac10 on crank...It sounds like an angry hornet and must be running around 1200 rpm. I figure I could cut the bad guy in half with it... However it tends to jam every 30 rds or so. :confused5
Can we have a play date some time?
If I could find somwhere to shoot full auto outdoors....I used to go up to Sanger... :confused5

Seriously I've got to find a silencer that will go on the Ruger...My ears ring even with plugs and earmuffs. Maybe you and AndyC can show me how to build one on a form 1. I can't afford any more full auto these days, but with the CLEO sign off requirement gone I may want a can for the AC556
I'm a member at ETTS, and you can shoot full auto there.....just no green tip (it tears up the steel targets). Guests shoot for $20 for all day, but heck, I'll even pay for your range fee just to have a chance to handle that thing and maybe fire a few rounds. I'd never heard of that rifle before, but I looked it up, and I think it would be an interesting weapon to own.......although there is probably no way I could afford to buy one on today's market.

I'm curious..... Did you buy it before or after 1986?
I bought it in 2004 from a Class 3 dealer in Cedar Park (near Austin). It was about $5K , It's the Ruger AC556 Blue Folder and what's cool is it has semi, 3rd burst, and full-auto. The problem with this gun is it's kind of an orphan. Ruger stopped working on them about 6 years ago when they ran out of pre-86 parts and they don't make them any more for LE/Military, since they never caught on. It's basically a short barreled Mini-14 in full auto. Some parts are interchangeable with Mini-14. Last time I took it out, about 8 years ago I lost a receiver screw and just replaced it with MIni-14 part. Putting the Ciener kit in can get a little finicky and I'm actually anxious to make sure it's still good on 5.56 ammo.

I'll PM you and maybe we can meet up some weekend and see how it works on 5.556 again. I'll bring my MAC10/9 too.
That would be awesome. I've got about 2,500-3,000 rounds of 9mm ball too, so.........
