I have a Glock 43 and my wife has a S&W performance center shield. I like them both but the OP didn't like them. We don't know why. I think before we provide help on an alternative one needs to know why the OP didn't like the models mentioned.

If you were willing to forgo the pocket carry criterion, a 50 BMG pistol would give you a lot of knock down power in a relatively small package

With the Glock & Shield ruled out I would say look at Khar or a Sig P938, both great as well.

I have the XDs 3.3 in 9mm and love it. While I'm fairly certain it could probably be pocket carried with a flush mag, I have never tried. Its become my EDC because it so small and is easily covered by a shirt w/ an IWB holster.

It might be a tad too big for pocket carry unless the pockets are big, but I have an aluminum framed, semi-auto S&W 3913 9mm single stack that I really like. Unfortunately, S&W stopped making them so you have to buy used.

The Glock 43 in my opinion is a great gun. It s a Glock its gonna work and I love Glock. But what I didn't like about the gun was it just didn't feel right in the hand. It shot good but didn't feel good so I let it go. Function wise nothing wrong with the pistol. I picked up a Kahr Pm9 yesterday and shot it and I have to so it is the nicest little pistol I have ever shot or owned besides my 1911. It has the smoothest double action trigger you have ever felt! I got it used for 425 and it's an 800-900$ gun. The guy who owned it before maybe put 100-200 rounds through it which is great cuz it's already broke in. I put 50 rounds through it and it was way more accurate than the G43. Check out Kahr as an option. I am glad I found them. I have always heard good things but could never justify the price tag but yesterday I could.

Wow; you, too? I thought I was one of the only ones who still had one of the original 3913s in the safe. I think I bought mine in 1995. One of the first compact, lightweight, semi-autos aimed at the nascent concealed carry market. Mine never saw much carry, and I haven't put a round through it in over a decade. Maybe it's due a little range time...

Another vote for the PM9. There are several good options in 9mm Kurz (.380), but I think the PM9 is about as good as it gets in a pocket-carry 9mm Luger.

I had to grab the box for my 3913 off the shelf and check the manufacture date. I was wrong; I bought it in 1997, not 1995. It is, in fact, 19 years old this very month. It was born August 5, 1997. Aww...

Hmmm. I don't know the date of mine; I'll have to look that up. I know Jeff Cooper was not a fan of "Crunchntickers" (DA/SA semi-autos), but really like both the 3913 and the 4013. There are "newer" designs out there, but I think it's hard to beat the 3rd gen S&W pistols.

I have shot several of the single stack pistols, I own and carry a Kahr PM9, even with everything that has come out since the PM9, I stay with it. One thing I'll mention, it has a very long trigger pull. I like that, it gives me a sense of safety knowing that it would be very difficult to accidentally pull this trigger, not so with some of the other single stack pistols. Just my 2 cents, and I know what that is worth!
