Years ago my mother had a pretty large garden and the cottontail rabbits were wreaking havoc on it. When the opportunity presented itself, I shot one with a .38 SPL lead round-nose bullet.
It must've delivered a pretty good shock, because the rabbit rolled 2 or 3 times before coming to rest. As I walked up to it, I was surprised to find it was still alive. It's eyes were open and it was still breathing. After humanely dispatching it, I looked over the carcass. There wasn't any blood and I couldn't find where the bullet had gone in or out. It had to have left an ice-pick size wound that closed back up.
Make mine hollowpoints.
