Do You "Carry" at Home?

I carry my STI 1911 all the time home, work, laying on the floor watching TV. The only time I take it off is if my wife is home and she has her Combat Commander on. Aint nothing better than a beautiful woman with a.45 Colt on her hip.

I keep a small bell tied around the front door handle at my apartment. While it's primary function is for my lab to touch her nose upon when she needs to use the bathroom, it also serves as a great "alert", of sorts, to my door opening, and even movement of the handle from the outside. That being said, no, I do not carry at home (usually), but I'm always on the go, so if my firearm is not on my person, it has been only temporarily set aside; usually on my desk or coffee table. Now with all of that being, said, the only time my gun is not within immediate reach is when I have company or am watching after my two year-old nephew. At those times, it is in my electronic lock box that can be opened in well under a second.

Hahahaha, I must have missed this original comment. So true, so true. My dog sits up in bed if the my neighbors two blocks away happen to sneeze. No one is getting in that door without her knowing about it.

Riiiiight. Because no one has ever had their home invaded, nor been attacked or assaulted in their home.

I have a couple of small pistols.
Usually around the yard I have a NAA Black Widow in my pocket.
In the house it's usually that or a KT P32.
And I have a gun in each major room.

Riiiiight. Because no one has ever had their home invaded, nor been attacked or assaulted in their home.

Not as easily as a holstered handgun on your hip.

If your home is setup such that you cannot access a gun faster than an intruder can get into your home you need to rethink your homes Defense FIRST.


If your windows are locked all the time, and your doors are locked why the heck would you need to have the GUN on you at all times while your inside. Lets get real here. Who these days keeps their house doors unlocked?

most intruders in my area use a Number 9 or larger, and kick the back door in. That is a little faster than the window and door lock pickers.

I had $600 worth of damage done just to my back door, as did my neighbor and quite a few others in the area about 20 years ago.

I just don't think you're going to jump out of your recliner after half way dozing off during the 10:15 weather forcast you waited up for, and successfully reach for a weapon stored in a drawer or cabinet before a determined intruder can gain entry.

All of the NRA classes I teach have a section on safe storage of firearms. I usually get a few quizzical looks when I comment that, among all of the numerous storage options available, the safest place to "store" a firearm is in a strong-side holster on their hip. But when they think about it, there are no keys for the kids to find, no combinations to learn, no safe door to be absentmindedly left open or unlocked and no secret hiding place that isn't quite so secret as they believed. And if the kids reach for it without permission, the same arms that are there to give them a hug, pick them up when they fall, or pat them on the back for a job well-done, can give them swat them on the rear! Having a gun on your person at home isn’t only about being ready, when you still have little ones in the nest.

Yeah, I know, I'm old and set in my ways; but I love 'em both -- kids and guns.

I carry inside my home ALL the time. The only time Im not wearing my gun is when Im in the shower, and then its within arms reach. I know several people who think Im silly/psycho for carrying in my home. IMO they dont "get" it.

If some BG comes crashing thru a window or a door you arent going to be thinking clearly - if at all, and you will have a difficult time retreiving your firearm from the safe or other location. You can have all the security you want, it won't save you from a BG intent on harming you and your family. Unless you have bars over your windows and front door (good luck getting out if your home is on fire ), a determined individual can be in your home in seconds. By the time the police arrive you will be a statistic on the evening news.
