I'm also still here waiting. I guess I'll call them again in a few weeks but I'm not sure that has any effect on the speed on the background check.

I think that makes them mad and they go even slower!

Well, I got fed up with waiting, so I went to the Governor's website and filled out a form to request help. The next day I received a copy of a letter sent to the head of the DPS asking them to investigate. Two business days later DPS called me (today) and said that my background check had cleared and I should have my CHL in hand in ten days. She gave me her name and asked me to please call her if I did not receive it within ten days.
So complaining to the right office got me action immediately.

Hmm... Why didn't I think about doing that. When in doubt, go over their heads!
When I talked to the DPS, I was told that they have no control of the time it takes for the FBI to perform the BG check. So if I don't see any change this week, I'll try the Governor's website method and see how that works.
I know that good things come to those who wait, but this is getting ridiculous

Sent them an email yesterday about my photos to see if they recieved the second set, and they never reponded. I was going to call them today and deciede to check the website before I did and my photos finally are green. Hopefully now it wont take to long for the BG check since they have had my app for almost 2 months.

I got up late this morning after a long day of work yesterday. I checked online just to see if on the off chance that anything had changed with my status.
BG Check COMPLETE!!!!
Now to see how long it takes for Manufacture and shipping...
I might take the family out to eat tonight to celebrate, or I may just wait until it comes in the mail and carry to the restaurant to celebrate. Either way I'm happy all of the initial check list items are done.
Note: I did have to call the DPS offices, have them pull up my application, and politely ask what was taking so long. I got results pretty quick even though I got one of their generic answers when I called. Look at the numbers, 32 days of having everything but the Fingerprints and BG check complete. I made the call, then after 2 days of that call my Fingerprints went green, and 4 days after the Fingerprints the BG check went green! I think calling them is the way to go.

Calling got me no where as you can tell by my timeline!

Just sitting here waiting by the mailbox hoping the mailman brings me good news.

I called them a while back and was told I had no reason to inquire about the status of my app untill the 60th day, and untill then they could give me no more information. I agree with NOS on evaluating the efficency of thier process, I think for the moment they've only got the two epileptic bipolar schizoeffective amputee midgets with IBS, terets, and down syndrome and a fancy for psychodelic drugs working these files for the whole state, and with the reported influx of applications ranging from lobbyists in Austin trying to get through security at the capital, to the common man who don't feel too good about the idea of being carjacked in dallas by a guy with a kitchen knife, they should streamline thier operation a bit. I didn't mean to come off offensive, but on this topic, this is the best place to vent.... I finally got my prints to go green, still waiting on background check and manufacture....

Folks you can be assured the DPS monitors this forum.
It is FAR better than things were a yr ago & every indication is that it will continue to improve.
DPS should be complimented on the improvements & we will all continue to work on the few problems.

Mr. Shasta's application was updated this morning. He was pending both fingerprints and BGC yesterday evening, and now he's cleared both and shows Manufacturing Pending. Looks like his total will be about 60-65 days

I might have a problem. I just moved 15 days ago so do they mail it to the address on the application? Or do they go with what's on your DL? Which would be great either way. I just need to know what address to be looking out for. Also I do want to compliment the DPS. From what I have seen from previous post that it used to take a lot longer than 60 days. So let us all be thankful.

they mail to the address on your application. also, keep in mind the post office does NOT foward state mail. so, as long as someone is checking the mail at your old address you'll be fine. CHL and DL are not connected when it comes to address changes. Hope this helps.
