and also that maybe carrying in a less than inconspicuous manner may have some downsides.
the dude with the 5.11 TacVest barely concealing his USPSA rig might have a few tells that give him away.
course, then again, the guy SmartCarry'ing a lil .380 may not have enough firepower to achieve anything more than annoying the terrorists long enough to *hopefully* get his family out.

nothing's perfect, just have to know where you fall into the mix.

After reading the bare essentials of the original post and admittedly scanning the responses, my gut-reaction would simply be to continue pressing on with shooting my way out the nearest exit to the outside of the building. Shoot one guard and they replace him with another? Shoot the next guy too.
My general feeling is that I am in a theater with a bunch of AK-armed types, then my chances of getting me and my loved ones out in one piece are slim to none. So I will take my chances on surprise and speed.
Shoot the door guy and run. Shoot the guy that replaces him. Rinse, repeat.

Hijacking is no longer the fun sport it used to be for the terroristically inclined.
I read where one airline captain said that if a takeover attempt occured on his plane, you better be in your seat, buckled in, as whoever was not buckled in (hijackers/terrorists) were going to have a very hard head on collision with the roof of the aircraft.

That's as good a plan as any I can think of under the circumstances.

As tricky as that is, getting the family out too adds a whole other level of complexity to an already extremely complex situation.

He's far from alone. I think you'd find that's the general consensus among pilots. Only the details of the maneuvers vary some, according to the capabilities of the aircraft types they command.

seamusTX wrote:If you don't like hypothetical scenarios, please stop now.

Here's the scenario: You are sitting in a movie theater, in the middle of the audience, more or less. You are watching your favorite action figure stuff bad guys' heads where the sun don't shine, or maybe you're rolling your eyes at a three-hanky chick flick that your wife wanted to see, because your unarmed wife is sitting next to you.

The movie stops. A voice from some invisible location announces, "You are all prisoners. Do not try to resist. Allahu Akbar."

After a short interval of shock and surveillance, you realize that all the exit doors are blocked by men with long guns.

A man several rows in front of you takes cover behind a seat and fires at the nearest door guard. He scores a fatal hit. Seconds later, his head explodes from automatic rifle fire from the projection booth.

Another terrorist who was seated takes the place of the late shahid.

Multiple, fanatical, suicidal, organized, well-armed, well-trained terrorists in a very defensible location.

What do you do now, mall ninjas?

- Jim
Do a bounding backflip and spike the landing on the back of the seats behind me...flip open my NEO black trenchcoat revealing my arsenal of firearms..draw my heavily modified Beretta 92's and commence Gun Kata Omega 1 in which I expertly place 5 shots per badguy center mass in a whirlwind of bullets, brass, and awesomeness!
Image

Then with the showdown of the main dirka dirka and his minions...I shall unleash the sworded fury of my $20 mail order katana held on my back by speaker magnets and unleash the whirling dirvish of death upon them
Image

When the smoke clears...this is what the saved people will see

Image
There will be a hushed silence...as noone will be able to speak because they are overwhelmed by my level of Awesome!

I shall be named uber dude of the century, get a massive movie contract, move in a gated community, and join the anti-gun stars of hollywierd

It's topics like this that keep me from going out anymore because I see these things as becoming reality soon. I'm still traumatised by Red Dawn...seriously.

But as to this situation I'd wait till I either had a clear shot with laser sight on multiple targets or wait till I was touched-moved around to go in for the kill on my assulter and if I died oh well one less thug for the rest in the theatre to worry about.

Violence and bizarre accidents happen every day. People have been killed in their homes by vehicles crashing into them.

You just have to prepare in whatever manner you see fit, and take your chances.

Living is 100% fatal. There are no exceptions, and nobody gets out of this life alive.

Life isn't about just staying alive. It's all about how you manage the interval between birth and death.

Once you internalize this, it takes a lot of the worry out of the things that go on.

People sometimes ask me what I'm afraid of, referring to possible criminal attacks.

I can honestly say Nothing. Whatever happens, I will deal with it as best I can.

I worry more about the people I care about than myself.

The Marines -- that is a violation of Posse Comitatus.

I'm not expert on Posse Comitatus, but I would think the Insurrection Act would allow the use of federal troops in case of a foreign invasion.

Ah... I think that you've got a great point. I forgot about that, I think that they expanded that a couple of years ago to include deploying military in the event of a terrorist attack. Good catch.
