What do you think about rifle car carry?

I agree, my point is that, for me, the added weight and relative discomfort, combined perception of you if you ever are involved in a shooting (where you almost certainly will not need that level of protection, but the hardware will come under scrutiny) equals single gun carry for me. Again, I have no problem with those that do carry more and in the unlikely event that they are ever involved in a shooting where it is needed, they will certainly be glad they had it.gigag04 wrote:I think the answer would be better poorly presented alive, than well presented dead. Life is about risks, and my risk vs benefit analysis = 1 gun carry for me. Most of the time that gun happens to be a 5 shot wheel gun for size, weight and comfort. Again, mine, not necessarily anyone elses analysis of what is best for my lifestyle and risk level.
Hey if you are armed to the teeth, your still welcome at my house! I might force you to go to the range and so I can try some new hardware.
There's only barrel length, you don't event need a stock to make it legal. A while back I thought there was also bolt design, where open bolts aren't legal, but I was wrong.Boma wrote:Is it legal to add an sidefolder or underfolder on an AK and use it as a car defensive weapon?
Edit: NOTE - Please see the min. total length requirement posted below by txinvestigator.

Maybe carry an AR pistol? On your body or in your car ?
If you get the Bushmaster's carbon 15 AR pistol and accidentally expose it, people might just think its a toy gun. That's what my wife tells me when she saw my Carbon 15 rifle: "that looks like a toy gun".
Hmm, maybe paint the whole pistol in some non-evil unblack color too.

Thanks TXI, I was going to mention the 26" rule as well. Also, if you guys decide to carry an AR-15 pistol, remember, it's classified as a handgun, so rifle and shotgun laws no longer apply. The reciever itself is what is registered on an AR-15. If you wanted to build a pistol AR, that specific reciever is the only one that could legally have the pistol upper on it, even if you have multiple AR's and like switching them around. The same thing applies to putting a stock on a pistol registered AR-15. I don't know if the Carbon-15 type rifles and pistols can have stocks interchanged, but it could be trouble if you were to use an illegally modified weapon for self defense. Be careful guys, just because it says "AR-15" doesn't make it a rife. Stay out of trouble, I like talking you you out of prison! But, that being said, if you're lucky enough to already have your CHL (I'm just past 30 days waiting), then you can carry an AR-15 pistol in your car or on your person just like any other handgun. I can't see that being too easy though!

It isn't possible (without mods) to put the Carbon-15 rifle stock on the pistol. The stock has a small protrution that fits into a hole in the receiver on the rifle. This receiver hole is missing from the pistol.WNallG30 wrote: I don't know if the Carbon-15 type rifles and pistols can have stocks interchanged, but it could be trouble if you were to use an illegally modified weapon for self defense.

Just before the "assault weapon ban", now thankfully gone, I bought a Marlin 1894S lever action chambered in .44 Remington Magnum as a car gun. It's still not a bad choice. The tubular magazine holds 10 rounds of heavy hollowpoints loaded for the Desert Eagle .44 Mag. I put ghost ring sights on it, and it's very handy.
However, except in states with stupid laws, which I try to stay out of, I mostly carry an AR15 with a 16 inch barrel and an Eotech with co-witnessed iron sights. Since it's one of the weapon systems I instruct on, I have a good explanation for having one with me.
Clint Smith said something like, "A handgun is properly employed to fight your way back to the rifle you probably should not have put down." I'm with Clint.

I have an old Maverick (cheaper version of Mossberg) with an 18" barrel that I bought new about 15 years ago. It was cheap then, and probably about worthless if I were to sell it now. In fact, when I loaded it with Hornady 00 Buck, I probably doubled its value. That said, I have a better home defense shotgun, and had no intended use for the Maverick. I keep it in the trunk with the 00 Buck in it, and some slugs nearby, should I find a need for a long gun while out and about. Better to have and not need...
