If I was going out with CompVest, I wouldn't carry at all. I'd just stand next to her and hand her fresh magazines.

How about
behind her so you won't be in the way if she has to track a moving target!

That is probably the better tactic. I [almost] pity the fool who tried to provoke the confrontation.

Suarez is specifically commenting on training versus equipment, of course, but I'll posit that an extra mag or two, a knife, a good flashlight, a can of pepper spray on your keychain, even a BUG are all elements (not to ignore training) of "fight," not "gun." They're preparation for an "in the unlikely event of" incident.
Playing advocatus diaboli for a moment, that's all hardware. Different equipment than "gun" but hardware nonetheless.
A variety of hardware can be useful to avoid the "everything is a nail" problem, but I think tactics and movement and other skills are often neglected.

I don't always carry the same amount of firepower with me everywhere I go. I usually carry 16 rounds, 8 in my .45 and 1 extra 8 round mag, and I usually have at least 2 extra mags of .45 in my truck.

Me ?
Daily carry, mostly my Kahr CW40 / 6 rd. mag with one in the pipe, backed up with one extra mag. ( 6 more rds. ) 13 total.
BUT.. when I carry my big XD daddy .45 tactical / 13 rd. mag. with one in the tube, backed up with one extra 13 rd. mag. 27 total.
A lot of lead to carry around / That's why I ride a Goldwing !
Let us know, what your thinking about carrying AND how much lead.

Let's see, here. For the Mak I carry 8+1 in the gun, plus at least one, maybe two spare mags. So, 17 or 25.
For the K40 I only have two good mags, so 6+1 in the gun and 7 in the spare (extended)mag. I like that arrangement because I have the same number of shots for each mag. Total 14. Maybe at a later point I'll buy and carry another mag, but personally if 14 rounds won't do it, it's time to beat a hasty retreat.
In any situation that requires 40+ rounds I'd rather have something belt-fed with a happy switch, or better yet left to the police.

My carry is a Sig P229 with 15-round mags. I carry two mags to help balance the weight of the gun. When I carry the smaller P239, I do the same thing. For me, 2 extra mags works well.

Being the nice guy that I am, I would probably be going out with you to help you carry all of the big expensive presents that you would be buying for your understanding four gun Master level husband's birthday.

i have had my PT145 for a while now with several hundred rounds through it . double taps, rapid fire ,absolutely no problems with any type of ammo i feed it. i trust it enough to make it a carry weapon.
