I wear it like a shoulder rig.


Made it like the old ones w/ elastic across the back.
Left arm goes in the large circle, elastic across back & right arm in the elastic.
Works for me.

Interesting. I like it. Dunno if I could properly reproduce that for myself. I guess it just takes a bit of experimenting.

Where did you get your kydex sheath? I was looking at getting one from these guys:

I thought there was some exception in the law about carrying illegal knives if you are engaged in hunting or camping where things like a machete are common? There is the exception for camping or hunting. But there are a lot of lawn care people and hunters who leave them in their trucks all the time, thinking of them as tools. That is when they are illegal. Well, strictly speaking, I guess you could say they are illegal for the lawn care and agricultural use - there is a sporting use exception but not a valid tool exception.

so are you saying that according to the "law" that the machetes that most of the folks in my profession carry in their work vehicles 24/7 are not considered tools?

Yeah, basically. They may be tools but if you read chapter 46, there is no exception to the rules for carrying a tool of a trade. We have the exception for sporting activities, but not for general tool use. This is one of the absurdities of Texas law.

A knife is defined as any bladed hand instrument that is capable of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by cutting or stabbing a person with the instrument. Clearly a machete fits into this definition. An illegal knife is any knife with a blade over 5.5 inches and again, a machete clearly fits into this definition.

But, as with many Texas laws, the average cop uses a lot of common sense when applying it. I don't think anyone would get arrested for using a machete in a lawn care business or for clearing land for agricultural use. Even having it in the truck with the other lawn care equipment is probably not going to get noticed unless it gets used the wrong way. I could see a cop doing something about it if he was looking for a way to arrest a person anyway, but that person is going to go to jail for something and this just made it easy for the cop. I don't like cops like that or laws like that, but I have to admit they exist.

I like it, nice job rigging up a way to conceal/carry it.
