I don't think that the value of running through "what if" scenarios can be over estimated. In fact I would posit that regularly running through these scenarios is a form of "training" and I believe, that if actually faced with the unthinkable, you would revert to your "training" including range work and tactical "imaginings".

This is true for hard wired biological reasons. When your heart rate escalates sharply under life threatening stress, your ability to think creatively goes sharply downhill and your brain searches for "preprogrammed" responses. If it finds some, it executes them. If it doesn't, your heart rate skyrockets further and you become even less capable of getting yourself out of whatever you've gotten into.

Thinking about things beforehand is planning, not training. Tactics have to be physically exercised and repeated to bring them to the point of reliable usability when you need them most.

Just out of curiosity, what would the legal problems be if in a situation like this where it was necessary to shoot back, you handed your BUG to a friend who you know can shoot but doesn't have a CHL?

I disagree with this one. If I can carry concealed all day, every day as I interact with lots of people who are not distracted by looking all around a crowded room to make sure that the cops aren't there yet and nobody is fighting back... I'm pretty sure that a BG in the middle of a robbery is not going to see my weapon as I hand him my wallet and phone.


As for the situation in general... it's a tactical nightmare. If I see it coming, I'm getting my family out the door. If we can't get out, we're most likely complying and trying to get as many details as we can to give to the police afterward. Of course, if it turns bad, I'm going to do whatever possible to keep my family and myself alive.

He doesn't need a CHL to shoot, just to carry.

I've often run this scenario through my head and one thing that greatly concerns me if they go around gathering wallets, what would they do if they found your CHL? I have often considered carrying my CHL in an alternate location on my person.

Well, they probably won't go looking through the wallets right then. However, when they eventually do, now they have your address and know there are weapons to be had there.

Is there real stories documented via security camera for Multiple BG Restaurant robbery where it ended in a shootout?

If you stick to restaurants that sell pork chops, the pork chops are much more likely to get you than armed bandits.

On the other hand, if you go to places that sell Big Macs or fried chicken to go, it could go either way....

Nan-king Massacre, I read half the book by iris Chang, The japanese were a brutal bunch, Even the Nazi leader of the "Safe Zone" was appalled by the butchery.

I have thought about this one before and like others have said can't be sure of how I would react. I would have concerns for doing something that could get my family members shot or just as bad, other innocents around me. If I made the decision that a fire fight is necessary, I would immediately move as far away from my loved ones as possible to draw fire away from the area they are in. There are so many what if's in this situation it would take three hundred words or more to cover half of them. Gun drawn and in my face...if close enough...I grab it and start shooting. if not close enough to grab the gun I know I can't shoot and stop the guy before he pumps a round into me. My instincts would rule in this scenario. If I believed these guys would leave with no shots fired I might just hand them my wallet and phone...if they made me think for one second that they planned to shoot anyone...I draw and start fighting.

Again...the problems I see immediately are the innocent bystanders my actions may get killed. I would have no real issue with the loss of money or cell phone...those can be replaced. Loss of life prevention is why I carry a concealed handgun. Pride has nothing to do with it. So when push comes to shove, my reaction would 100% depend on whether or not I believed loss of life was imminent.

PS...I had no idea this was going on around Dallas until I read it here. Scary stuff...thanks to this forum I am better prepared if I am unfortunate enough to be in a restaurant when this starts to unfold.
