I appreciate your sentiments, but it is not the first attack on US soil since 9/11.
Just this past June two soldiers just out of basic training were shot by one "Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad" who had "religious and political motivations," ""with the specific purpose of targeting military personnel." One soldier was killed, one was wounded. They were at a recruiting office in their hometown assisting the recruiter. Interestingly, an abortion doctor was killed about the same time. Abortion clinics got federal help with security. AFAIK, recruiting offices got no such help.

In July 2002, at Los Angeles Airport, an Egyptian-American muslim killed two El Al employees and wounded other people before being shot dead by an El Al guard (who got stabbed in the process). I think one of the wounded died later. It took the FBI about a year to conclude that this was probably a terrorist attack.

On May 22, 2002 Muslim convert Patrick Gott screamed out Allahu Akbar ("God is Great!") in the ticket counter area at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans before opening fire with a shotgun.

Also in 2002, Muslim converts Lee Malvo and John Mohammed killed 13 people in the Washington DC area in a series of sniper attacks from their specially modified car.
Joel Henry Hinrichs III, a convert to Islam, was an engineering student at Oklahoma University, planned a suicide bombing in a stadium, but accidently blew up only himself outside the stadium. Police found more explosives in his apartment, which he shared with some muslim students from Pakistan.
In 2006 there were two attacks using vehicles as weapons to run down people, injuring 25 people. One at UNC Chapel Hill using a rented SUV, another in San Francisco using an SUV. (Quick, ban Assault SUVs!) Both perpetrators were muslims. One said he was obeying the Koran, the other targeted Jewish neighborhoods. There was a similar attack in Minneapolis in 2007 -- this driver described himself as a "terrorist."
In 2007 a Pakistani muslim walked shot six women, killing one, in a Jewish Federation center. He said he was angry at Israel.
Five people were killed at a mall in Utah in 2007 by a Bosnian Muslim. An off duty cop killed him before he could be asked about his motives.
These are only the "successful" ones - -there have been a number of plots broken up before they could be executed (e.g. the Ft Dix plot).
Give some blood for me. The Red Cross says the places that Uncle Sam sent me make me ineligible to donate blood. But remember if you go on base to do so... it is a "gun-free" zone. No CHL carry allowed.
