"Coast" should drop the setting by 1MPH on a short tap. I tap, count to ten, tap, lather, rinse, repeat.

Not near as much fun as the older vehicles I've had where I could drop gravel and other debris through the rust holes in the floorboard, but more legal.

My little story is:
Back in 1981/82..Indio Ca.
One of our Nat' l Guard soldiers and friend .. ( Art L. ) off duty. (( C Co. 1/185th AR ))
While driving down tha' hill from Banning to Indio (where he lived) taking his pregnant girl friend home; had some of the same road rage issues happen to him.
Trying to avoid the rager, Art pulled over on the shoulder of I-10, the other gentleman did tha' same thing, while sitting there, the rager stepped out of his vehicle, walked back, up to Art's window, words where exchanged...Art, reached between tha' seat and pulled his gun...shot tha' dude, point blank, C O M ...dead, right there !
Art was young, full of life, had just started with the California Army Nat'l Guard. But killing that dude on the side of the road, changed his life forever.
One hot headed moment, Art went to Prison for a long time. (Blythe, Ca.)

Since he suggested getting out of Dodge instead of running over the aggressor, I think Jester's thought also involved turning the wheel enough to drive around the individual.

These types of stories are frustrating.

Austin is known for its "weird ones" and this guy must be one of 'em! We have a saying here in Austin that goes something like this. BUILD A WALL AROUND AUSTIN...TO KEEP THE WEIRD ONES IN!!

I think the shooter should have exited or found some other way to avoid the incident. The reckless driver is just stupid. However, the shooter was also where he was allowed to lawfully be, no matter how dumb it was to still be there after 8 minutes of horseplay. Legally, why wouldn't he be covered by the castle doctrine since he had no duty to retreat while having someone acting in a way that could easily be interpreted as an assault with a deadly weapon (car)?

Not saying he was in the right, but legally, how was he in the wrong? Besides not using common sense, of course.

This has solved my problem with many tailgaters and they just pass me and tailgate someone else.

This is exactly what I do whenever someone is too close behind me. My wife and I actually get into arguments about this. She will be driving in the left lane at say 5 over the speed limit and have someone come up close behind at a high rate of speed. I'll recommend that she should pull over and let them pass, and she really has a hard time with the idea. I think she takes it personally, like I am telling her she is driving too slowly, despite my attempted explanations that she should just let the other person drive how they want.

Actually "hanging out" in the left lane is against the law in Texas. See Transportation Code 545.051(b). And if I'm wrong about this or misinterpreting this statute, I'm sure one of our resident attorneys or LEOs will point it out to me.

Its also against the law in Washington state, where my wife lived during the first 36 years of her life. I have printed out the laws and shown them to her. Doesn't seem to have made much of an impact.

Fortunately, we have been married long enough that I have learned to choose my battles.

Both drivers are loons.


The shooter failed....since he had a hammer (chl-firearm) every problem he encountered quickly became a nail.
