LEO stops this guy says "Sir the reason I stopped you is because you ran that stop sign." The driver says "I slowed down, there was no car coming. What's the difference?" The LEO takes his flash light out and starts beating the guy about the head and shoulders with it. He then says "OK do you want me to slow down or stop?"

What's the point of the officer stopping if he's just going to start again?

I suppose there are some in this world that are so anal, that they never speed, pull out of a fully lighted parking spot at night without FIRST turning on headlights, always do a complete inspection of there vehicle before starting it to ensure all lights are working, license plate is present, never miss a newly installed traffic control sign, do not look like or drive a vehicle that could ever be confused with one that is wanted for some criminal complaint, never pass a DUI check point, never have an accident in a vehicle, their fault or aonthers...etc etc.. For the rest of the humans on this planet with a license to carry a concealed weapon, .. You will likely have an encounter with law enforcement at some point.. Reading this thread could save you some aggravation, frustration, and a free trip to the local holding facility. ..

Some states (OH) require LEO notification immediately upon contacting an officer for any law enforcement purposes - I'd be sure of what state you're in and what they require.

So true, when your blinded by a spotlight the last thing on your mind is turning more lights on. His biggest problem was not telling him I had a gun right away. I thought giving him my CHL was telling him. I also thought saying "I have a gun" might come across as threatening. OK- next times its hands on steering wheel and I have a concealed handgun license and I am carrying.

If I choose to say something, I favor what handog says. There is no mention of "gun" or "firearm" or anything like that.

However, I got stopped twice in the last year after going 8 years with no stops. Both times I handed DL, insurance, and CHL to the officer and said nothing. Both times I received a warning and the officer (DPS in one case and sheriff deputy in the other) said nothing about the CHL at all. YMMV.

I've been pulled over three time since getting my license. I handed both my drivers license and CHL. Twice I was handed the CHL back and the LEO said I don't need that. (In both of those cases no ticket as I was not going but 6 or 7 miles over the limit.)

The third time the Leo asked where the weapon was and I pointed. She said I don't need to see it. I got that ticket 'cause I was over 10 MPH over the limit. Went to the comedy defensive driving and had a fairly good time with some descent Mexican food.

Had My First Time to be Stopped "While Carrying" Today:

I was stopped today for the first time in years for speeding by a Texas DPS Officer. Was driving an East Texas Farm to Market going 63 in a 55 (apparently). I was carrying my Springfield XD Sub 40 in my waistband with my 14 year old son in the car coming home to Arlington from fishing Bob Sandlin (no they werent biting ).

I pulled over on the Shoulder (what little there was... on the 2 lane rd), his partner stood at the DPS passenger door as he got out.

I ...
#1 Turned off the truck
#2 Rolled down the windows
#3 Kept me seatbelt on
#4 HAd my Wallet on the dashboard in front of me
#5 Had my CHL and Drivers License in hand in clear view with other hand on the wheel
#6 Told my son to sit still and shut up (he was already giving me an earfull for getting stopped )

DPS Officer said , " I pulled you over because you were going a little fast, May I see your Driverse License, please"

I handed both licenses to him, he looked them over, asked if I still resided at the address on the DL (yes), Then he asked if I had been fishing (he saw my poles in the back of the truck) , I told him me and the boy had been out but no luck today... I must admit (Surprisingly) I was a little nervous and fumbled my words a bit...

and then he handed me back my CHL without any reference to it and said, " I am going to give you a warning today, I'll be right back".

Then he went to his mustang (partner still watching me from the DPS PAssenger Door Side) then returned with my Warning and DL and said, "Thank you sir and have a safe trip home", I replied "Thank You Sir!"

I have driven that road 1,000 times over the past 25 years and never seen a cop. Oh well, he was nice enough to let me off with a warning and I got my first "LEO Encounter" out of the way.
