PS John Brown was a dedicated man who willingly gave his life for his cause, one who would undoubtedly be labeled a "terrorist" today. To hark back to another active thread here, where it was asked whether terrorism can achieve its objective, it is quite arguable that John's terrorist act at Harper's Ferry resulted in his becoming a martyr who hastened the onset of the Civil War, which achieved the attainment of his cause.
One of my proudest possessions is a beautiful Sharps Carbine whose serial number indicates that it may have been, but not for sure, at Harper's Ferry during John Brown's raid. It was one of the many modified for center-fire, most likely after the Civil War.
To attempt to get back on topic, the carbine does not have a slide stop/release, unless you use a lot of imagination with respect to its falling block.
