That's exactly what I was thinking. Holy cow, there had to be 44000 of them within a 2 mile radius.
There's a good example of why you find a good FFL, and blow off the retail stores. They didn't do anything wrong, they were just inexperienced with a not-so-typical sale and fumbled through it.

Dang straight I'd do the same thing if I had no idea what I was doing.

The risk of doing it wrong isn't worth the sale.
When you find a good local FFL, they tend to go through the process a whole lot more thus are more familiar with it, and know how to navigate non-standard transfers they may not be familiar with. Academy has their corporate goofs to go through first. And with a local FFL, good pricing should be easy. It may not be the cheapest every time, but the support, service and personal touch is well worth it.
But for a Glock????

Good luck to anyone wanting support from a government agency.

Just buy used. There are a lot of G23s out there. Cheaper and no hassle.

They have the right to refuse to sell anything to anyone, shopping at academy isnt a right given to you

I wanted the gun so I went and picked it up, the guy would not stop apologizing, he walked me to the register to pay for it as they always do, and he would not stop saying they were sorry but they needed to be sure and blah blah blah... I told him "I am here doing business because I really want this gun and you happened to have a good price last week when I came to buy it, but be sure this is the last time I come to your store for any type of business", paid for it and walked away with my lovely Glock 23.

Glad to hear they took care of you, like some others have pointed out it may be worth looking for a local gunshop with fair pricing (although from what I have seen they are hard to come by)

In the end, they sold to him. Carter's Country still won't sell a semi-auto M4gery to a 20 year old ARNG.

When I was getting ready to buy my Glock 19 I heard about GSSF (Glock Sport Shooting Foundation).
http://gssfonline.com/ It cost me $35 for the 1 yr membership and with the member card I was able to go to Cheaper then dirt and bought my G19 out of the LE case, came with 3 mags all for $425.
They have now changed their membership rules and you have to be a member for longer then 1 year to get the discount, but still I think it's a great deal. I'm looking forward to going to a match sometime!
Regardless, the membership comes with the Glock annual mag, plus 2 gssf related mags to read. The pistol purchase program allows 1 gun a year at the discounted price.
They also allow you to take the Glock Armour class and after that you can get unlimited glocks at the discounted price.
I'm not advertising for them, just happy with it! I'll be buying a Glock 23 next year.
I personally won't bother with Academy at all, espically not with that hassle.

Interesting thread .
Please could some kind person tidy up for me .
If someone has a vaild (in date) 10 year green card. (Legal Resident Alien)
A Texas Driving Licence.
A Texas CHL
Has resided in the state for 3 years .
Would this person when purchasing a handgun from an FFL in Texas
still have to :
#1. Provide proof of 90 day residency with utility bill receipts
#2. Photo copies of their TX Dl/TX CHL/ US Permanent Residency Card (To be retained by dealer with firearm application form)
Why would a dealer want #1 and #2 and still want to call into NICS ?
Thanks team

As far as I am aware (as a green card holding gun buyer/owner) the deal is this ...
The state (in this case Texas) has one set of rules - so a CHL holder just has to provide the CHL and DL as that is your official proof of ID.
The feds, being xenophobic about us furriners, want to make sure that you haven't been consorting with your evil cohort in the previous 90 days so they demand proof of residence in state as well as your A number. Exactly what this is supposed to achieve has always eluded me - other than making the security theatre types feel important. If you want a real laugh, try buying a gun as an H1b holder when you've had a trip abroad in the last 90 days. Despite living in the state for 5 years. In Kalifornia. Oh boy - not only do they deny the sale the DoJ demand that you sell all your existing guns as a denial to purchase is the same as a denial to own. That was a whole lot of fun to sort out.
I always assume that the dealer will want photocopies of everything just to fend off the ATF gestapo when they arrive. Of course - I'm used to Ca where the dealers are really paranoid about the ATF. With reason. A friend of mine who owned a hunting gear shop and sold some reloading supplies had his FFL pulled for not keeping photocopies of DLs of people who were buying powder. Even though it wasn't required by law.
I'm due to pick up my new XDm at the weekend - so I'll be sure to let you know if anything has changed.

Do I understand this to mean that a new resident can't buy a firearm in Texas for the first 90 days of residence?
Even a Native Texan who has just been away for a spell?
When I get there and get a drivers license, and have the CHL from Texas, am I good to go, or do I have to show residence?

I think you are correct. Otherwise, if I were forbidden from buying a gun because of something I've done here I could just go to Oklahoma and buy one there. I handgun that is.

Nah - we're talking about us immigrants here. As in non-citizens.
Of the USA I mean - I realise that a sizable portion of the locals hereabouts regard citizenship as being Texan - but that isn't what the DHS are worried about

Pretty sure I read ATF just did away with the 90 day thing for green cards.
