During those years when I was trading lots of guns at the shows, every so often I'd get one that I just put under the table and took home without ever trying to sell...those went in the ''permanent collection". 2 Pythons, one blue, one nickle...same deal in Colt .45, Mark IV's, S&W model 34 .22 kit guns, Model 36 Chief's Special snubbies, Colt Detective Special snubbies....one blue and one nickle of each of those models. Have had alot of others in just about every configuration that come and go over the years, but those I just hang on to.

They probably are. RAM4171 set me straight a few pages back. I thought the caliber made the difference because my dad had a Redhawk in .44mag and a Blackhawk in .357mag. I never considered the possibility that they had different actions.

My memory is fading, but I think the Blackhawk was a big deal because it was the first double action .44Mag manufactured other than the S&W Model 29. I think Ruger chose that name to differentiate it from the SA Blackhawks. Ruger sold a lot of these because of the shortage of the Model 29. Some people liked them more because of the beefier frame.

I think you meant to say "the Redhawk was a big deal", but just to clarify things: The Blackhawks are single action and were the first centerfire revolvers Ruger made. They were sold for many years before they ever built a double action...the first double action they made was the "Security Six" in .357 magnum and were sold for quite awhile before the double action .44 magnum Redhawk was introduced to compete with the S&W model 29.
