Well thanks for clearing that up. You will have to forgive me but seeing as how you are new around here, can I inquire as to who you got your insight from?

According to this thread they are responsible for 1.6 billion rounds with just one department. Lord knows how many rounds are being sucked up by other departments.

Then we have the military contracts having to be fullfilled. Every police department in the country is finding themselves high and dry and are responding by ordering more ammo. I am not so sure we can say the government has zero participation.

Not really new, just have better things to do than worry about government conspiracy theories regarding ammo shortages that were caused by panicked idiots in the general populace.

I have a feeling regardless of what source I were to post you would just call it crap. Yes there is an ammo shortage, but it isn't because of any government RFQ or order - regardless of what Alex Jones poops out on his media. I expect the current shortage to be pretty much over by mid to late summer. The last shortages in 2008 lasted about a year - I expect this to be less.

Wow, I did not realize a government purchasing a product would have have zero impact on the economic relationship of supply and demand.

Yep... And the problem actually started several months before Odumbell seized power. Ammo prices had already started creeping up due to the Iraq war. Military orders were coming in ahead of civilian orders. Granted the prices just went through the roof after socialism but I noticed increases happening in mid summer of 2008.

It is all about supply and demand. Where the demand comes from matters not. Government or civilian demand will create the situation we have now. The combination of the two is just too much.

If some of the early reports of supplies picking back up are true, I think we will be Ok by mid summer. I hope so.

Midway just delivered 5k small pistol and 5k large rifle primers. Also ordered some powder. Supplies are starting to drift back. Local Academy on Monday had MUCH more ammo than I have seen in weeks although no 9mm, 40 or 45. Also saw some guns for the first time in a long time. The market will eventually return to some state of normalcy. What bothers me is the price gouging at some stores. Midway never price gouges as far as I can tell. But there sure are some taking advantage. But this is capitalism and it does work. I may have my first reload done in 4 months or so if I am lucky.

Honestly, the craziness has not really gone away since 2008...This is only another installment of how they (liberals and Fabian socialists) continue to foment the economic and social environment to fit their agenda...

The way I and a few others have fought this battle right now, is that we are NOT buying much...We prepared for this before 2008, and when things did stabilize, prices were still a bit over what they were prior to the current threat in 2010-11, I, for one, am not in any dire need for anything at this particular juncture...

I bought a box of 50 CCI "Stingers" back, in, ohhhhh, 'bout 2003, maybe 2004...It still has the price stamp on it...$2.95...

Ok I'll Bite on this. Midway today does not even take backorders - ZIP. When did you order the primers?

This really isn't a surprise to anyone. We knew it would get bad again it was just a matter of when. After 08 I learned my lesson and when prices went back down and supply went back up in 2010 I made sure I had enough ammo to last for a long time. If your not going to get setup for reloading and you don't have enough on hand my advice is buy only what you need to get through this storm. When supplies go up and prices go down some (hopefully) buy it like there is no tomorrow. That is what I did because I knew that no matter how much I bought it would only get more expensive as time goes by. I look at it like a long term investment.LOL

I know this doesn't help the people who can't find it now but when all the panic buying slows down, could take a year or more. Who knows? It will get better. On a side note even though ammo will be in short supply for a while I won’t be surprised if the used market is flooded with firearms in the next 6months- 2years. Some people are spending all their discretionary income on firearms.LOL

My father owns his own business and in the last few months he has had several customers try to pay him in firearms because they have no money left to pay him. LOL. Good as cash! Actually it is better.
