Note to carjackers and other criminals: Motorists driving between PA and NJ are sitting ducks.

Perhaps they've already figured this out.

Wouldn't that apply to motorists between anywhere and NJ? Plus motorists driving within NJ?

I'm talking about tax-paying law-abiding citizens, of course. Not the special people.

Shaneen Allen's hearing is today. Not sure what time.

Evan Nappen (her attorney) was interviewed by Fox News as well.

There has also been a bill introduced to give judges the option of leniency for first time offenders who made mistakes such as Ms Allen. It's not ideal, but it's a start.

NJ has mandatory minimums of 3 years for certain firearm related crimes (a "crime" NJ speak for "felony."). The law is the N.J.S.A. 43-6(c) commonly known as the Graves Act.

A conviction under the Graves Act incurs a mandatory sentence of 5-10 years with a minimum parole ineligibility of 1/2 to 1/3 the sentence or 3.5 years, whichever is greater.

Jon Corzine signed a bill in 2008 which added unlawful possession of a firearm to the graves act. So this means if you are caught carrying without a permit (which is impossible to obtain) you are facing a minimum of 3.5 years in prison. The judge has NO wiggle room whatsoever.

The law was originally passed in 1981 to combat real crimes committed with a firearm, such as aggravated assault, burglary, robbery etc. Eventually the antis got drunk with power and made even the smallest firearm related offenses third and second degree crimes. In fact Chris Christie (Republican) even signed a bill that makes unlawful possession a 2nd degree crime... which is completely absurd. Now even if you possess a BB gun outside of the exemptions (home, place of business, range, gunsmith) you can get 3.5 years in prison without parole.

Ms. Allen had her hearing today. Both motions were denied. They are moving to trial on October 6. Her attorney was interviewed on Fox News today as well.

Jury nullification is probably the only thing that could save her at this point...

Also anybody considering voting for Chris Christie for President in 2016 needs a serious reality check... this guy is a serious gunophobe. He only panders from time to time when it is politically convenient.

No matter what his position on the 2nd amendment he is a pathological lying piece of scum.

If anyone is interested in helping her by applying pressure to the prosecutor, NJ AG and Chris Christie.

Christie finally made a statement.

A pardon would be nice but it would be nicer if NJ could actually join the rest of the US in offering CCW to its citizens on a shall-issue basis and honoring other states permits.

The whole "we should let it play out in court" looks like Christie is just following constitutional separation of powers. In truth, it reflects the fact that a RINO like Christie is more than happy to have draconian, unconstitutional gun laws on the books, and only tosses a token sentence commutation here and there on the rare occasion that people are watching and it's politically expedient to make it seem like he cares about gun rights at all.

Don't worry, tubby, we're well aware of your actual views.

Be careful. Some of the bomb throwers on this forum will accuse you of being an Obama supporter if you voice intention to vote against a proven antigun politician with an (R) after their name in the general elections.

Makes me glad I'm not in New Jersey, where the issue of voting for or against Tony Soprano has come up for me yet :txflag:
