"Open carry" is for all the people who refuse to get a chl. I have mine just like many of you I conceal it well and I'm not worried about unintentional display because I'm not careless. All open carry really has to do with is people wanting to look "cool" walking around with a gun on their hip. Do what you want but don't mess with my ability to conceal carry in wally world

Not saying I agree with all of these kinds of carry, but there's more to carrying than shoulder and belt holsters.

it's an open carry bill and those are concealed carry methods, why would they be mentioned?

Because they can be open carry methods if the person wants them to be. My point is, why do they need to define Open Carry in such a small scope in the bill? Why does it matter how it's being openly carried as long as it's not in a threatening manner?

I see your point. I wonder if the author of the bill is trying to make sure the guns are holstered and not just stuck in someone's waistband or carried in their hand. Maybe the wording just the wording that is throwing you off?

Then why not just get a chl and be done with it. Carrying a handgun Is a privilege not a right. So why does open carry matter to people so much when they can just get a chl.... because they want to be seen with a gun on their hip

Where do you get that it is a privilege and not a right? How do you know what others are thinking?

In my case (I have a CHL) I'd like to be able to carry OWB and not have to worry about whether my cover garment is completely concealing my weapon. I CC in a position that gives me excellent concealment, but I also have some problems with my lower back and carrying in this position exacerbates my back issues. I could carry in a different position, but, despite trying many different ways, concealment is not as good and access to my weapon is diminished. Moving to strong side OWB would be a great solution for me, but my usual attire would not conceal this carry method nearly well enough for me to use it in public under current law.

And BTW, carrying a handgun is a right, not a privilege.
Current law treats it as a privilege, but that's what we're trying to fix.

Just... No.
Some people see the cost of the class and licensing as extremely burdensome. Which for some people, $200 is quite a bit of money. Then you have to pay to get it renewed. I like having my CHL and will continue to renew even if "Constitutional Carry" passes, just for the reciprocity and express lane when I purchase a firearm.
Your interpretation of the the Constitution is your view, and many have a different interpretation of the 2nd Amendment.
"Because they want to be seen with gun on their hip" - have you ever open carried? IMO, it is much more comfortable to carry OWB without having to worry about your shirt riding up causing mass hysteria. But that's just me.

At this point yes everything is a privilege is a million dollar home a right or a privilege? If you commit a crime the goverment can take away your so called "rights" so tell me if it's your right to open carry why don't you instead of waiting for the goverment to grant you that privilege. Exactly

it's not a right if they're granting it because it can just as easily be taken away

I do hope a form of open carry passes this session. It would absolutely change the way I carry in that I would not worry so much about it being seen. I could still carry IWB with a tucked shirt under the holster rather than Over it and not worry about removing my jacket.

taking a breif tangent: I am still amazed that open carry in Texas (I mean really this is TEXAS ) is such a problem when other states like Michigan, where I left many many years ago (20 this year), have it. Arizona is a really good example of unlicensed carry (open or concealed) and blood is not running in the streets. Why is the Texas legislature so opposed to this? It boggles my mind.

Personally I don't want to just go OC because I will be arrested and taken to jail. The way the law is now, I agree, carrying a handgun outside your property is more of a privilege right now, but that's what we are trying to do - get it back to a Right.

It's may be treated as a privilege by some but it remains a Right. What it is doesn't change because of how some view it.
