Ok, back on topic...

One of the things we have done to prepare...At least for a natural disaster (hurricane/flood) is document (digitally) all of our possesions...Digital photos and scans of reciepts, bills, contracts, and other important papers...

They are stored in three different locations, and once all the gathering is done, to update that stuff is easy...I keep them on three different "flash card" USB "sticks"...

One at our evac destination, one in the safe at home, and one I keep on my person...A 1 Gig drive is sufficient storage to do the job...

Just another thing to keep in mind...

Another idea to add to keeping them on the flash drives is to use something like Yahoo for your e-mail, and then save a copy in there. I will have to add some of the flash drives to my "BOB". But I think that I will put in on my SD card that I have in my cell phone. So that I can pull up the picture of the items in the field.

Thats a good place to stow a lot of that "lettuce" so it doesn't get misplaced or worse...For the most part...

In small bills, too. 5-20s, 20-10s, 20-5s, and 100 in ones, would be my paper.
10 rolls of quarters, would be great as a start, also. Water machines take quarters.
Don't expect everyone to have, or be able to make change.

I bought this little gem at the local Army/Navy store. retails for about $39.95, and has more pockets than god ever intended for one backpack!!!

It has a main compartment, with two sub-pockets, one's mesh, one zips closed. A second main compartment with two small mesh pockets, two outside pockets, one good for your sunglasses, the other has pockets inside of it, good for pens, knives, my headphones.... you get the idea!
plus a secret velcro compartment that is directly behind the back padding, good for keeping your pistola when you don't have any pockets (the gym).

I have commented a couple of times about what I've percieved as the silliness of some the censoring, but to claim that I or others go on and on and on is misleading. If its also against the rules to comment on the forum rules I will gladly not post on them. Just let me know. I do not believe I've been particularly inflamatory or even disrespectful here ..not ever ..

Although I don't see that anyone discussing "covering their donkey" is disrespectful, rude, crude, coarse, or offencive to young daughters. I accept that opinions can differ and have never used that 3 letter word nor do I intend to on this forum.

Being from Galveston we learned our lesson the hard way after we didn't have much in terms of supplies after Alicia. We didn't have power for a couple of weeks and it was then that my old man said "never again!" From that point, my family always had a plan and supplies handy for any quick getaway. It wasn't really something I thought about till I moved to MD (DC Metro) in 2000 and then 9/11 happened. Seeing the smoke from the Pentagon from my office window is seared into my memory! Since DC is a primo target I started getting my BUG OUT BAG together. I lived between DC and Fort Deitrich, MD where they have one of the largest chem/bio weapons facilities inthe world. It's funny how your fate can be determined by wind direction.

I have one large duffel bag for both the wife and I. The bag has both warm and cold weather clothing, MRE's, wind-up flash light/radio, Motorola FRS radios, small amount of cash, ammo, duct tape, bungee cord, para cord, extra set of eye glasses, batteries, toilet paper, playing cards (LOL), firestarters, light sticks and a compass etc. I'm sure I'm forgetting something but you get the gist of it. It's basically the same stuff I'd take on a car camping trip. My tent and other larger things that won't fit in a bag are in a plastic tub that can be loaded into the vehicle quickly. Fuel cans and water containers are also in the garage. I recently bought a 55 gallon water barrel but I don't think it'll be going anywhere. I also have a separate Stormcase that I have precut for a couple of pistols and my AR plus mags. I think for the most part that I could be out the door in about 15 mins or so which is what the goal is. Depending on what the "emergency" is I guess will dictate whether you stay or go. The last thing I want to do is get caught in a Rita-like traffic jam. Our outside the city meeting place is my best friend's 200 acres in Columbus. Now I just have to convince him to build the bomb shelter...LOL!
