I'm not trying to talk anybody out of a HK45 but handle a SIG P227 before you go that route.
You may be surprised how well the P227 works.

I did go ahead with the VP40 LE that I'd found on gunbroker.com -- at $579 that seemed like a heck of a deal. Thanks to all for your input and suggestions!

I don't think you can go wrong with that pistol. Recently, I was torn between a vp9 and a ppq; after I shot both I went with the walther but it was close. Both simply delightful guns. My ppq makes me look like a good shot, everything else I've ever shot makes me look average at best.

Hopefully all the positive comments I've heard about H&K in general, and about this new gun in particular are well warranted. It's hopefully on its way to me and if all goes to plan should have it in hand shortly! :anamatedbanana

i've only put about 100 rounds through my vp9, but it's the best pistol i've ever shot hands down!
