Moody Gardens does not have rides, nor is it in a county with a population of one million or more.

I think we established recently that only Six Flag in Dallas and San Antonio and Sea World met the definition in 46.035.

P.S.: When I posted this message, someone had asked if Moody Gardens was an amusement park. By the time I clicked Submit, the question was gone.

An old thread, I know. But a small update on Galveston.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary there last weekend. We stayed at a nice B&B on Avenue P. When we arrived, we had supper at the Captain's Table (take Seawall Blvd. and head west). No 30.06 sign, and the stuffed flounder was fantastic.

The next afternoon was spent at Moody Gardens. No 30.06 sign, and it was a fantastic experience. That night, we had supper at Fisherman's Wharf. No 30.06 sign at the door, nor could I find any sign in the bar as we waited for our table. We walked around the Strand for a bit, and took a carriage ride. We even came across a movie production company obviously setting up to film a scene. They were busy getting signed releases from people they recruited from the bars on the street. My wife wanted to hang around to see if "anybody special" was there, but no celebrities were to be spotted.

Before we came home on the next day, we parked on Seawall Blvd., walked the beach, and then spent a little time at the State Park.

Prior to this visit, I had never been to Galveston. We really enjoyed it, and we will be back again. I'd rather spend a little more time on the road to go to Galveston, instead of going to Corpus Christi or Port Aransas.

I am glad you enjoyed Galveston. Mrs. Anygunand I have enjoyed many nice times there. Obviously you have to stay away from the bad parts and be situationally aware. The Strand has some nice restaurants. Luigi's is probably the best if not one of the priciest.

Fisherman's Wharf sharesd the kitchen with WIllie G's, and yes, the stuffed flounder there is the best anywhere.

We drive to Galveston to eat out quite often instead of fighting the crowds at Kemah. We seldom ever venture North on the freeway towards Houston unless it is to Pappa's Seafood.

We have been to Corpus a few times. Our youngest son was there recently with his main squeeze and reported that Corpus is still one of the jewels on the Gulf Coast.

Next time take your wife on the romantic tour of the Lone Star Flight Museum.

Right, although they can have metal detectors and give you oral notification.

Furthermore, Moody Gardens is entirely owned by the City of Galveston and cannot be legally posted (not that that stops the city in other places).

The last time Mrs. Anygun and I ate there (before a Jerry Jeff Walker concert at the Grand!) the restaurant was not posted. As I recall the veal was cut-with-a-fork tender.

Errm .. Unless something has changed recently that I don't know about. Moody Gardens is owned by the Moody Foundatation. A (supposedly ) not for profit organization. Pretty much under control by the Moody Family.

Hmm... according to Wikipedia Galveston does have ownership somehow.

Moody Gardens is a tourist complex in Galveston, Texas. It is owned, through a complex agreement, by the City of Galveston but funded, operated, and supported by the multi-billion dollar Moody Foundation.

My understanding is that the Moody Foundation built Moody Gardens and gave it to the city. The Foundation could not operate it as a for-profit business. A Moody-run company manages it.

This information is just from reading the newspaper over the years.
