There is a p320 model with a manual safety. That would be the only way I'd consider it for daily carry.treadlightly wrote:I like the Kahr PM9 for safety reasons (long trigger pull) and the fact it's accurate for me. One downside is it won't feed properly without some steam behind the slide. In the manual it says to drop the slide with the release to chamber a round.
Sig's P320 is oddly compelling. Because of the modular design, the subcompact feels pretty much just like the full size version, and you can feed full size 17 round magazines into the subcompact if you want. Too much weight for me. I stick with a spare 12 round.
Mine is not 50 state legal, so it has no operator safeties at all. I'm always very, very careful reholstering. Call it a connoisseur's gun, not for handling without practice. Very nice action, though. Gently easing the slide forward chambers a round just fine.
If I could only have one gun out of my little collection, it might well be the P320 - if it weren't for the Kimber Ultra Carry. I know some folks think they are sort of the Yugo of high end 1911's, but I like mine.

Now THAT is an intriguing combination.allisji wrote:I was looking for an H&K USP Compact 9mm when I bought my Sig P239.WTR wrote:I've been happy with the out of box performance of my H & K USPc.
I really liked that the H&K has a safety/decocker that can be carried cocked and locked or decocked and DA.
Ultimately I figure that I would have always carried it decocked, so the safety would be unnecessary.

Indeed. It also has 2 extra rounds of capacity over my Sig P239 without sacrificing much if anything at all in size/weight. They are a little harder to find than the Sigs. Which is mainly why I ended up with a Sig and not an H&K. However, I have no regrets as I love carrying/shooting the Sig P239TexasTornado wrote:Now THAT is an intriguing combination.allisji wrote:I was looking for an H&K USP Compact 9mm when I bought my Sig P239.WTR wrote:I've been happy with the out of box performance of my H & K USPc.

The H & K has been totally reliable ( no failures of any type) and extremely accurate. The only draw back is the price of mags.

Re: Variety is the Spice of Life
I love my Springfield XD Mod 2 Subcompact - great shooter, feels great in the hand, and it has an ambidextrous mag release (not a big deal for me, since I'm a righty).
I'm actually looking at getting a Sig P320 as my next weapon - that thing feels like an extension of my hand. I was able to get my XD for $450 total - four mags, a box of ammo, the XD itself, all the XD gear including the lock, a range bag, and the plastic case the firearm came in. I thought it was a pretty sweet deal; picked it up from a guy on texasguntrader.com. Only problem is, now I have "the itch" to start collecting.

Hmm would that be the same itch that has me thinking ....while a .380 is great for date night, it would be nice if my primary carry and my full size used the same ammo therefore.... I NEED to purchase another pistol!?!?remanifest wrote:I love my Springfield XD Mod 2 Subcompact - great shooter, feels great in the hand, and it has an ambidextrous mag release (not a big deal for me, since I'm a righty).

Re: Variety is the Spice of Life
I'm pretty much locked into the 9mm round on handguns, personally... though the FN Five-SeveN looks great, I don't feel like dropping $1200+ on a firearm when there are great, cheaper options available. 9mm is the cheapest round, and has great stopping power. I think it would be cool to have a .45 at some point, but I don't really find it necessary when I consider the purpose of a carry weapon.
Now, rifles are another story all together.

I carry the H & K in an IWB Cross Breed Super Tuck and is very, very comfortable and easy to conceal with my frame.....6' 180lbs.WTR wrote:The H & K has been totally reliable ( no failures of any type) and extremely accurate. The only draw back is the price of mags.

From one Signal Girl to another, here's my list of guns I've been eyeballing:
H&K p30SK
H&K VP40 (a second one)
S&W M&P Compact (I own a full size 9)
Stoeger Cougar (seriously, this bulky little gun has me intrigued)
Sig 1911 (Emperor Scorpion or Scorpions finish)
Sphinx SDP
CZ Rami
Springfield XDM compact
Beretta 92
That is just the list of handguns I'm considering. It's not complete, I know I'm forgetting a few. Long guns list definitely isn't nearly as long though.
Can't explain my process, I just like what I like. I've handled these guns at some point in the past and they've stuck in my mind. Recently I've been leaning towards handguns with hammers. Husband and I bought a S&W J-frame revolver and we've fallen in love with it. Solid little gun. And a Sig is a Sig. That's not a bad thing, that just means if someone handed me a sig and said "here, have this" I would be excited no matter what it was.
Good luck on your quest!
Also, SWEET collection!

I don't know where you live, but Texian Firearms in Houston had one last week...and I think they were only asking $1100 for it.

That's the big drawback to the P320. Honestly, I'm not sure why I like it, but I do.TexasTornado wrote:

On the plus side, the geometry of the bullet feeding is really nice and the gun will likely never malfunction, assuming consistent ammo. It has a big gun feel. I can hit with it just fine, even though the trigger is heavy.
On the minus side, it's a fairly short throw trigger with no operator interlocks or safeties. That's a big minus. Not a gun to be handled, in my opinion, without working out procedures to guarantee safety. The usual four rules plus methods to make sure holstering the gun doesn't discharge it.

Re: Variety is the Spice of Life
I tried out the Springfield XD compact, the m&p shield, and the p320 in the store.
The M&P is a no go on the slide release an the slid itself isn't smooth enough for my liking (apparently spoiled by my SIGs)
The Springfield I liked everything but the textured grip. Very uncomfortable to hold.
The p320 felt great, but they (nor I) have found it yet with the manual safety. May have to call SIG directly to find out what corner of the country they might be hiding in.

Which XD did you look at? The XD, XD Mod 2, and the XDM all have significantly different grip textures.
