Sorry, but the idea of secession is just stupid. It was not a good idea in 1861 (politically, financially, militarily, or in any other way I can think of) and it is not a good idea today. Texas is a great State, but it is better off from its association within the United States.

With the wisdom of their experience, I expect my Confederate ancestors would agree with me.

If Clinton is elected, I will depend on the checks and balances of Congress (mainly), as well as an assertion of federalism by Texas and other states. If Trump is elected, I will depend on the same.

Change is scary. I get that. There are many who argued about the doom and gloom that would accompany independence all three times that it was tried for us. Independence from Britain. Independence from Mexico. And finally, the failed attempt at independence for the Confederate states. We saw similar arguments in Britain before they recently voted for independence from the EU, and now in Scotland as they contemplate independence from Britain. Independence is scary, even when it is bloodless like it has been in recent times.

But that doesn't mean that it is better to always stick with the evil we know. Sometimes it takes courage to face the unknown for the possibility of a better and brighter future. Count me in for secession. Especially if Hitlery takes over.

When you consider what Texas has going for itself economically, industrial, farming, petroleum, natural gas, etc. It is very possible this state could again exist as an independent country, as it already did once before.
In addition to that, I forget the exact specifics but there is something to do with a gold repository and/or means of usage of precious metals as a bonafide means of money (NOT to be confused with fiat currency) either being created right now or in the plans for this state.
That alone is a major step towards bonafide independence.

Not only is secession a bonafide means of offering a body politic a better future, it is the inherent right of those who consent to a given contract for self government to withdraw thier consent when that contract is no longer abided by.

Don't forget that Texas has its own electrical grid. The ONLY State in the U.S. that has one. Which means we are 100% independent when it comes to our power generation & consumption.

That's HUGELY important when considering how independent Texas is.

Yes trying to secede would fail at present. The last time any state tried it was during the American Civil War, and you know how that turned out. But if in the future the USA would somehow collapse as say a major economic collapse along with some other causes, then the USA would likely break up into several smaller countries. Then Texas might succeed with secession.
