As you may know, the Hearing Protection Act (H.R. 367) was introduced by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) in January 2017. If passed into law, this measure would remove gun suppressors from regulations established under the National Firearms Act of 1934, while also eliminating the $200 tax currently applied to firearm silencers.

H.R. 367 has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Judiciary Committee, on which I serve, for consideration. I am hopeful that it will be approved so it can quickly be brought up for a vote before the full House of Representatives.

The Constitution explicitly states that the people’s right to bear arms shall not be infringed upon. As a committed conservative, I stand firmly behind the Constitution and the inalienable rights with which we are endowed. I have been appointed to the House Judiciary Committee, which serves as a primary guardian of the Constitution. This places me in a strategic position to ensure that all legislation passed by Congress aligns with and respects the Constitution — including the Second Amendment.
