you should think about posting no trespassing signs on your property.

also a lot of places around here have building codes saying the a/c must drain into the sewer. i dought its enforced much but building a new house might be an issue.

Sounds like what you did wrong was leave your gun in the car when you were in the house.

edit: maybe I should look at the starting date of a thread before replying... I usually at least look at the most recent date. Not good enough I guess.
