Wow., Is that what I have to look forward to. I'm 65 days out and getting impatient.

close to 90 days here. I haven't actually counted them up lately...too depressing.

Greetings from San Antonio. Finally signed up after lurking for awhile.
DPS received my packet 2/20/09. Got a pin at the 30 day mark. Now at 94 days and counting. I spoke with my CHL instructor the other day who said it's been running just over 90 days, based on other students reports. Searching threads here, I see that some have gotten their plastic in less time, even those who submitted after me. I figured that since I have only been in the state for two years, and the application asks for the previous 5 years addresses, I'm probably hung up somehow. Any sense to that?? My instructor also said that if anything was wrong, I would have heard by now, so just be patient. Easy for him to say!

I need any feedback from anyone who has had success with contacting your representative. I spoke today with Senator Patrick's office and they are telling me there is really nothing they can do. They called DPS and was told the background check has yet to be returned and DPS in Austin has no way to contact the investigators in Harris County directly to check on the status of the BC.
I have seen many people say that contacting their State Rep or State Senator has been helpful. I just can't imagine that for each and every person it was complete coincidence that their process got moving after contacting their rep.
Senator Patrick's office is telling me that they would love to help me but they only have one legislative contact number at DPS and that is where they got the information that there is really nothing that can be done. Does anyone have any information for a situation where it helped and what they actually did to speed up the process. Alternatively, the lady in Sen Patrick's office asked if I could name any specific representative offices where they were able to do anything so she could call them and see what they are doing differently. She said she would actually love to know.
Any information would be very useful. On day 105, background check is still in a pile in Harris County and I am getting increasingly frustrated.

Timeline in my sig....104 days to Plastic in Hand.
I currently live in Dallas County. I had 4 years of Lubbock County in my last 5 years as well as a couple of months in Dallas County at the beginning of the 5 year window.
DPS said the holdup was the Lubbock County background check. (Dallas County was returned in under 2 weeks!) The DPS technician had to email the trooper in charge of background checks 4 times in a month to get him/her to go to the courthouse for the background check. I had the license within a week of the Lubbock County background check being returned. The excuses I heard were, "Waiting on Background Checks, 1000 new applications a day, Trooper in Lubbock county wont answer email, etc."
It did finally arrive, but it sure was a beat down. Thankfully I used some of my time waiting to educate myself on this site!

Hello everyone...I, like most of you, found my way to this board trying to "decode" my online status!
Here is my timeline...I am doing pretty well at remaining patient!
April 18, 2009.......CHL Class (Saturday)
April 20, 2009.......Application Packet Mailed to Austin
April 23, 2009.......Austin Receives Packet
June 02, 2009.......Pin Mailed from Austin
June 08, 2009.......Pin Received
June 08, 2009.......Online Status: "Processing Application"
Is "processing application" followed by "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active"?

fingers crossed! =)
one thing that has me concerned...the "JR" was left off my name on the pin # letter, and so was my apt. number. I'm not sure if this was "clerical" shorthand, or if my plastic is going to arrive that way; I don't want this to be a reason I get kicked back...but if I get my plastic that way I am just going to leave it that way. This is only troubling because my father and I took the class together and mailed our stuff in at the same time...it bothers him more than me when people leave the Jr. off my name!

Finally -------- woooo hooooo
Well guys/gals after calling and emailing dps several times with nothing but the "still processing" or waiting on background check. I finally called Mario Gallegos, Jr. office and she gave me this number 512-424-5721 which is Ms. Jane Coffey. Talked to her and gave her my info --- she called back about 30 minutes later and said she was putting it in the mail -- next day ups delivered it.
