I've been pulled over about 5-6 times since I got my CHL and everytime the officer just came up and plucked it out of my hands. Have not gotten a ticket yet.

nothing , unless the officer asks if there are any weapons in the vehicle .
Unless you're foolish enough to have your pistol and your insurance in the same console compartment.

I don't anymore.

That's great. When you get stopped by DPS, use that as your excuse for not complying. How's that workin' for ya?

My dad's wife was stopped by DPS between San Angelo and San Antonio, and when the cop walked up, she kept both hands on the steering wheel, and mentioned she had a "traveling companion" (a Colt Mustang .380) in the glove box. The LEO offered to hold onto it during the stop, and everything was fine. She did not then, and does not now have a CHL. I'm not sure how long ago this was, but it was more than 10 years ago.

DoubleActionCHL wrote:I'll be the oddball. DPS recommends notifying the officer of your CHL status and that you're carrying "as soon as possible," so this would suggest that you should announce that you are CHL holder before (or while) you hand him the DL and CHL.
In all honesty and seriousness, this is the smart play. Withholding the info only makes the LEO suspicious and/or skittish. There is no logic in making a tense situation more tense, it will lengthen the time you are stopped, and will probably result in a ticket when you may have gotten away with a warning if you had been forthcoming about your CHL status. I guess when you get old, you become a bit less combative over the little stuff.

I've been stopped once in Fort Worth since obtaining my CHL. It was simple. I handed the officer the DL and CHL when askd. He handed the CHL back and said 'you can have that back'. That was it.

Woo! Another MsPaint expert! "rlol" :smilelol5:

This question has a simple answer to me.

Law requires me to show my CHL when the officer asks for ID. As soon as he asks for ID, the first thing I'll do is give him my ID & CHL. That's pretty immediate and 'as soon as possible' to me.
Law says nothing about getting pulled over, etc. None of that requires you to show the CHL.
If you're going to volunteer it just because an officer wants to speak to you, how is that different then volunteering it to the cop in line in front of you at whataburger when he asks you what time it is?
(Btw, the Correct answer in line at a Whataburger is "Burger Time")

Until he asks me for ID, I am not required to show my CHL, so I will not. For all I know, he may not ask for it at all, and may just be pulling me over to ask for directions because he's lost "rlol" :smilelol5:

Got me out of one ticket already, I think (I was only doing 45 in a 40).
45 in a 40??? Where was that? on Industrial between 183 and 10?

when being stopped by police , what would be the best way to to present your CHL ?

should i let the officer know i am a CHL holder , and have firearm(s) in the vehicle before making any movements ?

or , just give them my DL and CHL and wait for them to ask if i have any firearms in the vehicle ?

Sept 1st Amendment >>> HB2730 removes DPS authority to suspend a CHL for the holder's failure to display the CHL on demand. It removes associated penalties and suspensions for failure to display.

Not exactly related I know, but I think is has some application in this instance.
