Indeed. At Academy (and Gander Mountain for smithing services) I have never had a problem with preper service. They have been coutreous and so have I. In contrast I have not had good experiences with McBride's in Austin. the last time I went there was to pick up a specific Ruger target model they had advertised on their website. In person they said such a pistol didn't exist and couldn't be arsed to research it. So, Academy received more of my custom and I'll never darken the McBride's doorstop again.

Outside of a medical situation there is no (nongovernment) good or service I need that can't be taken elsewhere.

I'm still waiting for some email repsonses from McBrides. 2 Phone calls and 7 emails about Mcbrides gun smithing zero answers! ANyone know a good smith in Austin?

Good question. I have access to Gander's smith in Houston which is helpful (unfortunately I have mor efrequent need than I would like), but don't know. There is a Scott Post but I don't know anything anything about him. Will PM his contact info.

Leaving didn't even cross my mind. This was fairly close to a recent presidential election and I was just happy to find a pistol I'd been looking high and low locally to find, and at a fair price too. Any annoyance I had was long gone by the time I walked out of the store with my purchase.

I just thought it odd that he insisted he was required to run a NCIS check if a customer handed him a TXDL - even if accompanied by a CHL. I naturally suggested him he could just hand me my TXDL back and use only the CHL, to which IIRC he "he wished he could". I'm just curious if anyone else has heard of such a requirement or store policy before.

FWIW I kind of regret naming the store now. It was just one "incident" among many pleasant Cabelas visits, and very few local stores seem to have better stock on hand, or to allow reasonable handling. Indeed my chief complaint with Academy is that by store (insurance?) policy they won't allow the all important trigger test, even with a clear cased plastic snap-cap. Add that Cabelas in Buda is pretty near the Lone Star Gun Range and some very good BBQ in Lockhart, and the only real complaint is that I think my wife sometimes beats me to the mail to snag the Cabelas coupons they keep mailing to entice me back. :-)
