Alright! At Ease...everybody.
There's no sense in anybody gettin' their knickers in a knot over these silly "what-if boogeyman" posts.

I hope nobody is getting mad. I just think in this case, the thought of shooting a fellow human being was a bit premature. JMHO....These threads can actually help folks by showing them how they must be careful not to over react to a perceived threat when carrying. I don't think any of us would feel good about blasting an innocent citizen simply because they made the mistake of approaching us improperly.

Who got shot? Who had a gun drawn on them? No one.
If you want to wander through life like a child and be unaware of your surroundings feel free, I cant force you, just dont beg me to help you out of a burning building because you didnt bother to look where the Emergency Exits were

Now that hurts. I would help you out of a burning building.

I realize I'm opening myself up to some flaming here, but what the heck.
The man did not go overboard in his response to two unknown males approaching him in a dark parkinglot. How many robberys/carjacking episodes start with that preface?
If we all are who we say we are, (CHLers) we all know danger can come in all shapes and sizes or we wouldn't be here on the forum.
I'm starting to wonder if we have a few anti's with too much time or their hands that get their jolly's trolling.
You don't like long posts? Skip 'em.
Same for the "what ifs".
You know well and good a "pro" criminal will take on whatever appearence works best for them to achieve their goals.
There might be a few more "good guys/ladies" around without a history of being victimized if they had put a little more thought into who they trusted.
If some of us choose not to assume every "cleancut" person is an angel, it's our right. Get over it.
Now please make yourself usefull and add to the "Carrying drunk in the post office restroom" thread. I don't care who you are, that's funny right thar!

That is what I call an irrational fear.

But...you're wearin' a gun and if you shoot everybody, or anybody, who ain't, you'll be sharin a cell with a real BG whose name may be Big Bruce or somethin like that. You know what I mean, Vern?
One of my favorite quotes on this forum is, "...a CHL is not a Batman license...".

I have to agree with Rocks
It does seem there is a tendency here to see bad guys everywhere and worse to immediately consider using your gun.
I do think its funny that when someone disagrees they are deemed a troll

Ladies and Gentlemen, please re-read the op.
I missed any drawing or shooting.
The man stated some facts and wound up getting attacked as though he over-reacted.
And yes, vern knows what you mean!
You know, just because I choose to keep my gun in my hand covered with a cowprint ovenmit at all times does not make me paranoid!
Meanwhile - back in the postoffice restroom/bar...

I can see the headlines now;
"Shootout at the OK parking lot!
Shots were fired at the OK parking lot last night. Two parties were involved in the shooting, both were CHL holders. Below are the statements given to police.
CHL 1. I was coming out of the store and approaching my car when I saw a man hiding behind my car. I believed that he was waiting in ambush so I put my hand on my weapon at which time I saw the man reach for what I believed to be a weapon. fearing for my life, I pulled my weapon. At the same time the other man pulled a weapon so I fired 3 shots.
CHL 2. I was putting my stuff I just bought at the store in the trunk of my car when I saw a strange looking man headed straight for my position. I feared for my life so I reached for my weapon. At that moment I noticed the man had a gun in his hand so I fired 3 shots. I was able to avoid injury from the other man's fire by taking cover behind the car parked next to me.
Neither of the shooters were injured, however, 6 bystanders were wounded and taken to local hospitals. Their condition is unknown at this time.
Several anti-gun groups are using the episode as an example to support their belief that private ownership of guns should be banned."
Just kidding. Nothing wrong with being prepared and aware of your surroundings. You can't always judge a book by it's cover. However, there must be a balance between awareness and an itchy finger. I don't think the OP has an itchy finger. That being said, I sure hope we never park next to each other.

I think you did fine. Being ready in case you need to act is a much better place to be than off in lala land.
Don't let the critical comments get to you. I know the feeling (
http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28509), but I'm pretty sure everyone here is trying to be helpful (for the most part). Keep in mind that they don't have all the info on the situation, your background, taken the generation gap into account, nor do they know exactly what your mind had been dwelling on just moments before. Just as reading the story where a LEO had to shoot a BG almost 50 times before he went down would make me worried to only have a 5 shot revolver in the linked situation, so any number of parking lot stories could have flickered in the back of your mind the second the guys came into view.
Forgive the people who don't bother to read your follow up posts that explain things. It's just a fact of forums. Explaining that the kid had his hand on his knife for the third time because I forgot to include it in the original post... yeah, lesson learned.
You made it through with no ill effects, and only one DVD, so I think you did well. Also, you would have been in a MUCH better position to defend yourself than the naysayers here had the well dressed guys intended harm (come on, BGs use KIDS as props these days, why not Mormons?) For all you knew at the time, their friend was sneaking up behind you with a baseball bat.

I quickly undid the saftey on my pepper spray, and moved my shirt so I could reach for my Browning (Glock holster is in the mail)

They handed me a Church of Latter Day Saints DVD asking if they could come buy and talk to me and my wife
Whew it was a close one
I declined said No thank you but good luck, and sent them on thier way.
Got my Blood pumping though.
This event happened some five nights ago and all of the attention has been focused on you as to the "what-ifs" and "maybes" that could have happened to the unaware, unsuspecting and possibly underarmed CH licensee.
After all this time, it just dawned on me that no one has inquired as to your wife's well being and state of mind after you were singled out, in her presence, for a possibly horrendous act by the approaching and unknown young men in the grocery's parking lot. She must have serious questions, qualms, fears and perhaps even the heebie-jeebies following such a shopping experience? It's a good thing you were there and alert.
Good Job!
