You can set it to have the buttons beep or not.
I have a short one under my bed and it set to silent.
I have a tall one in a cabinet in the kitchen where I keep my carry guns. That one is set to beep.

Both boxes use the same code so I dont have to think about it.
When I got the first one, I kept it in the livingroom for a few days. Constantly opening it to develop muscle memory.
Now I can open it without even thinking about it.

As others have said, it is not a "safe". It wouldnt take an adult with a crow bar much longer than 10 seconds to get into it but that is not my reason for having it. I just want to keep the kids out.

I highly recommend it.

Did I mention that I think having a gun under the pillow is a bit dangerous. At least in my case... I just know i would have some weird dream and squeeze one off in my sleep.

I sleep with a XDM40 in a GunVault on my nightstand. Without much movement and zero light, I can have gun in hand in less than 3 seconds. Plus no risk of extra holes in my head.

I dont sleep with a gun under my pillow but I have a gun near me that I can reach. My friend has a holster mounted to his bed for access and also I think its Brownells or Midway that sells a thing that fits between your matress and box springs that is a holster.

I have only slept with a gun in the bed with me once. I kept hearing noises in the house right after we moved. I was sure it was the house settling but held onto my gun just in case, and put it under my husband's pillow (he was at work) before I went to sleep. I toss and turn all night but seem to leave his side of the bed untouched, so I wasn't worried about knocking it to the floor or worse...still, it was odd to wake up with my gun in bed with me.

Other than that one time, my gun is always on my nightstand, on top of a heart pillow.

We've barred the bedroom door and our puppy is starting to make soft growls and barks at strange noises outside. All this taken into account, I think my gun's plenty close if I ever need it.

Why not? It raises the pillow a little and makes it a lot more comfortable.

You'd most likely forget the password to your gunvault when under stress.

I have a friend who worked as a security guard in the 60’s. He was armed with a .45. He took a little nap on a couch in the facility he was working in one night. He woke up to the smell of smoke and missing his left patella. I guess he had a dream. Not a good idea in my opinion.

To each his own--it depends on each person's situation. I do not think just anyone should have a holstered gun under their pillow. Lots of people sleep with far more lack of control of themselves than I have
I don't drink, I don't take sleeping pills, I don't sleepwalk, I don't wake up in a stupor and grab my gun out of it's holster and fire it for no reason, and I don't have any little kids in my house (unless you count my husband--just kidding). It's as safe in it's holster under my pillow as it is in it's holster on my hip pointing at areas that would not be any fun to get shot either. In my opinion, it's a lot easier to shoot yourself during re-holstering. I think some call it Glockleg

My mother's coworker had his brains blown out by a pistol under the pillow...

I'm not taking that risk.

The woman in the incident I described earlier who fired her nightstand handgun into a wall while totally asleep would have met all of the points you described as well - up until the time she did fire the gun in her sleep.

Something to think about.....

I recall (this was a few years ago) an acquaintance telling me that they slept with their hand ON their weapon. This person was also an expert in firearms safety and instruction. However, that practice struck me as a bit too hazardous. Close proximity (NOT under the pillow) is good enough for me.

I agree with you on this TexasGal. It really depends on what type of sleeper you are and in what manner you keep your gun under the pillow. By the way night sights are great for finding your gun at night and orienting it in a safe direction or toward a BG.
