The solution to the declining frog and fish population, the booming turtle population, and the explosive hog population is simple – reintroduce the jaguar in Texas. The giant cat will eat turtles and hogs as well as run off the coyotes, a win for everyone (except those that come face to face with a jaguar, but that is a whole other discussion - "Should I use a 9mm or .45 on a jaguar?")
Regards,

I only laugh at your post because it is so silly. Everyone knows that a .45 is the best round for taking out a jaguar.

Wow, just read this whole thread this morning. Quite the debate. I think the feral hog political action committee needs to take a lesson or two from the "water turtle" PAC.
Back in my younger days, I'd been know to take a shot or ten at a;
Turtle,
Coyote,
Raccoon,
Crow,
Snake
Buzzard,
Rabbit,
Feral hogs
Rocks,
Deer crossing signs
Posted signs
Squirrels
Yellow jacket nest,
Coke cans
Match stick tops (unsuccessfully)
And dodo birds, prolly shot one to many of them

Feral hogs are actually an invasive species that don't belong. That is a very different issue than blasting turtles to save the frogs.

I personally would not just go shoot something for the fun of it, but I don't think the world will miss a few turtles.
Unless you are seriously trying to thin a specific population (in a tank or something); maybe you will find a stick is just as much fun to shoot.
They are not hard targets to hit.
Have fun Shooting!!

I just took a second look at the list! Those weren't "Lightningrocks" I hope.

Feral hogs and nutria should be killed at every opportunity without any remorse.

Very True... I have seen land that was destroyed by feral hogs. We may be losing the war against them. They are bad for darned near every native species they encounter. Funny you mentioned the nutria. I don't know much about them but we were talking at work the other day and a co-worker from Louisiana gave the exploding nutria populations partial credit for the over population of gators "back Home" as he put it. He is from some swamp in Louisiana. He did not think highly of nutria for many reasons.

Jaguars will take care of the nutria population also.

Hopefully we aren't all of the belief that we must agree on every aspect of life to be in agreement about gun control. One could make the same comment you just made about ice cream flavors. One person likes chocolate, another vanilla.
How about the old Glock vs 1911 debate? I thnk it will be OK for us to disagree on turtles.

Whoa now! No religious debates allowed.

I have been hoarding bacon. Now prices are starting to drop and I find myself stuck with three freezers full of bacon.
