I'm an idiot. Just played with it again and it is loading properly now. I was pressing the release like the safety button, toward the receiver, it has to be puled back toward the stock along the receiver - strange but seems to be fine.

Missed you shoot (again) - all on me, I forgot to set an alarm.

Well we had a good time. It was a small group, consisting of C-dub, his daughter Holly (who kept score and operated the launchers), Pawpaw, geekwagon, and myself. It was blustery and cold, with a 20 mph wind out of the west by northwest, pushing a steady drizzle in front of it. In other words......perfect skeet weather!

We shot a total of 3 rounds, although geekwagon had to leave after the 2nd, and it was amazing. With the wind coming from the direction it was in, it picked up the high-house clay bird and added another 20 mph on top of its already existing 40 mph, and it fairly shot out of there like shot from a cannon. On top of that, instead of traveling straight out and floating down, it crossed the midline and then dove for the ground like a dove dodging for a bush. The low house bird came out almost directly into the teeth of the wind, and it behaved in a most unsporting and unseemly manner. It shimmied. It shook. It climbed in stairstepping stutters. It sliced to the right. It slowed down, tempting you to take the shot, then it jumped upwards 2 feet higher.

The Puppetmaster of Skeet was having his way with us............at least with me. I shot worse today than I did the first time I ever did this. C-dub brought home the bacon as usual, with Pawpaw just a tick behind him. But, as with hunting and fishing, a bad day of skeet is better than a good day at work. The fellowship was, as always, excellent. Afterward, we repaired to the Mercado mexican restaurant and had a great meal together, which was warm comfort compared to a cold and windy skeet course.

Sounds more like training for a teal hunt. The first time I met Andy and Paw Paw the weather was even colder and the wind was a blowin' stink. Birds dropped like a rock one way and dipped and dived like jet propelled doves the other direction. The temp was in the 40's as I recall. Darn, I would have had two excuses to shoot poorly - feeling bad and the weather. C-dub was probably on birds so quick the never had time to react to the wind. But as you said a "bad day......" still sounds like fun for all!

It was definitely an interesting morning. The birds coming out of both houses were tough and I'm pretty certain Pawpaw took honors today. We tied on the first round, but he beat me on the second and third. Because of the wind, I was trying to get on it a little sooner after that first round of only 12. For me, that delay that was caused by the controller was really messing with my timing.

The weather caught all of us a bit off guard. I think we all knew it was going to cool off, but I know I didn't think about the wind taking another 10 degrees off and it's effect on the birds. Wow!

Geekwagun, mucho gracias for the use of the glasses! I'm definitely thinking about getting that girl her own range bag to keep all her shooting gear in one place. Maybe for Christmas this year.

I had a "blast" and was good for me to get out and finally shoot something bigger than an airsoft Next time I'll do better.

I'm certain you will. The wind was not helpful this morning and for only your second time trying skeet that was doubly difficult.

While today wasn't as cold as that day, the wind was FAR more gusty and had quite a bit of mist in it, making it seem colder. Trust me when I tell you the clays were dancing far worse today. Our light jackets did a really good job of soaking up the moisture, which left poor Holly shivering until TAM pulled a towel out of his truck so she could add another layer under her jacket. Poor TAM smiled the whole time but had to feel miserable with nothing but a light short-sleeved shirt and shooting vest.

C-dub & I tied the first round, I won the 2nd, & C-dub took the 3rd. All-in-all, it was a good day & felt like a lot of hunting trips from my childhood.

Holly is a real trooper. Judging by C-dubs numbers I believe you. Does Holly shoot shotgun? I know she was shooting at the rifle/pistol range at the April meet. I have a old standard weight Rem 1100 26"IC. Only thing is the stock LOP is probably too long. Well, 'til next time keep shooting one and all.

So far, she isn't interested in shooting a shotgun at anything. I'll wait until she's ready.

It was fun and also a bit frustrating because of the wind. You were missed, but we understand.

Sorry I missed it as well, since there is NOTHING like the smell of freshly-burned gunpowder on a cold day (grew up hunting in the northland ;)). Got to experience said beautiful weather while watching my older son's soccer tournament game. Would rather have been missing clay birds......
