I'm going to the range in the morning followed by a late brunch.

I'm going to a friend's house around 4. The game will be on TV but the TV is never the focus of our socializing.

You should tag them before you release them, you might be surprised.

So squirrels can make it back home like those poor dogs that somehow get left behind when people move only to find their way back to the new home...?

In that case, why not start an adopt-a-squirrel program and if it doesn't work out you can always eat them...

Lol... I have been hitting the back part of their tails with a quick spray of orange spray paint. Not enough to cause any problems for them. I was wondering if they were somehow getting back as well. Squirrels are better than homing pigeons.

They would have to get across central expressway and at least a dozen other pretty busy roads to get back here but I suppose it is possible. So far I haven't caught a squirrel with paint on his tail.

It might be cool to hook up a web cam to one of them. I have a funny feeling I would end up with video of the released squirrel getting mauled by the resident squirrels where I turn them loose.

In my younger days, squirrel was a staple in my families diet. Fried squirrel, squirrel and dumplings, squirrel stew, grilled squirrel... Much of that had to do with survival. I was not a feller who thought the government should pay my way. I worked for a living. Hunting and fishing made up most of our regular meals. Given the option, I would prefer chicken to tree rat.

Rabbit and squirrel were staples growing up. For that other meat, I hear the Koreans have good recipes.

Funny thing. The very same daughter who at 33 years old is making me turn them loose, was helping me clean them at five years old. My ex use to accuse me of trying to make her a boy...LOL. she could fish better, hunt better and do things my buddies could not get their five year old sons to even begin to do. she even helped me process our venison every year.

Then she turned thirteen, discovered boys and well... At 33 years old, she makes me live capture and turn squirrels loose.

She still likes to shoot. So there is that.

I will be in the garage in front of a Dillon Square Deal loading 9mm while the wife watches the game.
