I tried out the Springfield XD compact, the m&p shield, and the p320 in the store.

The M&P is a no go on the slide release an the slid itself isn't smooth enough for my liking (apparently spoiled by my SIGs)

The Springfield I liked everything but the textured grip. Very uncomfortable to hold.

The p320 felt great, but they (nor I) have found it yet with the manual safety. May have to call SIG directly to find out what corner of the country they might be hiding in.

Which XD did you look at? The XD, XD Mod 2, and the XDM all have significantly different grip textures.

Not sure to be honest. It had horizontal ridges where you're fingers wrap around. Very yucky feeling. And yes, yucky is a technical term.
