Barack Obama also weighed in on the proposed legislation, one of the few moments that the former president has commented on current political events since leaving office.

They should just simply REPEAL Obamacare and let the free market take over! We do not need a another government designed and poorly implemented entitlement!
Forever and ever AMEN! :clapping: You win the internet for this entire week!

They're not going to be able to fully repeal. If there's no compromise, we'll be stuck with the full fledged Obamacare we have now.

If this doesn't pass - it won't be repealed.

These are my fears right now. It's not what we want, but we risk losing it all. I wish they would have just reintroduced the full repeal that was vetoed, but I think that was a simple political stunt that is now backfiring on the entire Republican Party.

Sounds good in theory. However, as long as there is an FDA, CMS and other regulatory agencies that overburden the healthcare providers, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, insurance companies and hospitals with outrageously costly regulations there will never be a free market. Very few can compete and survive.

We all have to remember the system was broken before Obamacare was passed. Going back to what we had isn't the answer either.

No theory here. Repeal in full Obamacare, a socialist wealth redistribution scheme that has ruined what was the best (not perfect) healthcare system in the world. And yes, drain the swamp and send the corrupt appointed Communist party like government beaurocrats far away. In fact, send them to Ireland, Mexico, Singapore, China and the like and bring back American healthcare manufacturing, forced overseas by the FDA, punitive taxes, and the false siren song of cheap, albeit low quality labor.

These bozos have had 7 years to develop the legislation needed to fix this. They will be abject failures.

As I contemplate the Republicans and how they are handling things, primarily healthcare, Leon Lett and these two plays keep popping into my head.

I think most on here agree it's not the government's job to pay for people's health insurance or health care.

Free market for insurance without a free market in health care, two completely different but related industries, prices will never come down for either. Cost of care is the direct driver of health insurance premiums.

Big vote day is today. Trump has sided with the new bill. If it passes, I hope its good.

The health insurance I pay for each month went up 18% with my renewal this month. About normal for every year with or without Obamacare. What has been worse than the cost increases has been the creeping up of the deductible. Because my group is small and below the threshold, I'm not on really affected by Obamacare, except for a $60 a month tax that was added right after it passed. My understanding from my insurance agent is, that if I was really on Obamacare, my choices of which hospitals I could go to is severely restricted here in Houston.

What Obamacare did do, that I am personally aware of, was that it allowed two friends who were uninsurable to get health insurance for the first time in awhile. One had a seizure during college while she was under her parents insurance. The other developed diabetes while on Cobra after changing careers.

A simple repeal of Obamacare would have left both these friends out in the cold again. There were most likely millions of people like them. Everyone of them would have been a tragic story in the news, if it was simply repealed.

Once Obama gave them a "right", it is difficult to take away. I believe the Republicans did not want to face that heat in the newsmedia everyday. Thus the bill they are voting on today.

We will see. Health insurance is a complicated thing. Easy if you stay healthy and never need it. Hard if you get a chronic illness.

Unlike life insurance, you don't always die when you get sick.

With Obamacare right now, you can wait till your house catches on fire to get fire insurance.

It's not full repeal of Obamacare, so no it's not good. Trump's biggest and worst campaign promise fail so far.

While those are compelling tragic stories, they do not give the government the right to tax everyone, against their free will, to provide for those people. Stop taxing those of us and to paraphrase your words, "millions of people like us", many of us who continue to go to work each and every day regardless of health constraints, and instead make it easier for those folks you know to obtain and pay for their own care. And BTW, if taxes were lowered, voluntary contributions to legal charities, many of which can help people like those in the examples you gave, would rise as well. But to support or encourage Obamacare, which FORCES me to pay for things that I do not believe in or support, and things that actually destroy my ability to earn an income, like the medical devices tax, is an exceedingly one sided viewpoint.
