Just throwing this out there…..(in regards to the accuracy of the uniforms).

I remember listening to the commentary on one of these types of movies (or it might have been ‘The Unit’ TV show which has commentary by Eric Haney) and they were saying that due to legal issues they purposely will not duplicate an exact current military uniform. They will always alter it slightly from the real thing.

I was never in the military (so I don’t know anything about those things) but I’ve never expected ANY movie to be realistic. I just like the guns and explosions.

I have really enjoyed this thread though. It has been very informative…..the real world has always been more interesting to me than fiction.

The first time I ever watched full metal jacket was fresh out of boot camp with my father and mother. Both of whom where first generation vietnamese immigrants, boat people that fled the fall of Saigon. My father was a soldier in the South Vietnamese Army. The only thin he said for the entire movie was that the sniper ambush was too slow and would not happen that way.

I watch that movie on an almost annual basis. I love it. The worst part is indeed the part where the squad creeps through the city of Hue. For a bunch of combat veterans that those guys appeared to be (except for the Public Affairs pukes), they sure didn't demonstrate any knowledge of movement, cover or concealment to me.

That's an urban myth. They can wear the full uniform to full standards.
