I like the Bullet Trap. I have noticed lots more email from them starting in the late summer; almost like an effort to "market direct to the members". They hadn't really done that since I joined a few years back.

Yep! Fall of 2010, I believe. Though the transition may have been over a few months.

I shoot at Bullet Trap and Garland Public, am a member of both. I CC to both. I have asked the range officers if it's OK to fire my CCW - no problem as long as its at the bench and not drawing to fire from the holster. I reholster before leaving the line.

I personally intend to shoot my EDC weapons as frequently as possible and thus it would be rare that I visit any pistol range and not at least fire off 25-50 rounds through them! I've toned down the frequency on my LCP though - no more than 25 each session now!

Eagle Peak - you must know Roland. I haven't heard them yell "who's the cowboy" from someone rapid firing for some time. Always laughed at that.

Just don't do it behind the firing line when another shooter is in front of you. I had a guy behind me unholster and start fidling with it with the barrel pointed right at my wife. Thats the first time I jumped down a guy's throat with both feet at a range (or anywhere in along time for that matter).

My indoor range is Reds in south Austin. I always walk in with 3 handguns in my range bag & 1 on me that is my CCW. I remove my EDC at the firing line. After 50-100 rds I'll reload with SD ammo & reholster my EDC. Then, remove my other 3 from range bag (remove/shoot gun #2, then place back in bag, then #3, etc.). Never had any issues with any of the RO's at Reds. Always look forward to my time spent at Reds.

I agree with jtran987. While I don't tend to opine that the ranges are trying to make it more difficult or offend CHL holders, it is a safety (and general liability insurance) issue. I bet it is safe to say that at least every CHL holder has seen stupid things that other CHL'ers have done, or even a non-CHL holder. I'm sure I can spend an hour listing the stupid things or confused things people do when it comes to guns, including drawing the gun.

Legally, a properly posted 30.06 at a range requires you not to conceal carried and you can argue that with the range if you choose to carry when a properly posted 30.06 isn't present, but I would recommend you ask the range what their protocols are, just to make it safe and non-confrontational for everyone involved.

This is just my opinion, though, as I don't feel an improperly posted 30.06 requires me to do anything but carry concealed into the building I planned on walking into. You can't "lean" legalities when it is written in law, you can, however, really confuse people that don't know the law and believe they can carry concealed when they don't even know you have to have a license for it (been there).

I shoot at Red's in Pflugerville most of the time. I always have my CCW on me while I'm at the range but I keep it holstered and fire my other guns. I don't care for the idea of putting a dirty gun back in my holster and walking out the door with it.

This is great info for a new CHLer. Although the guys at Basspro GV are friendly and easily explain the rules there.

I always unload it and put it in my bag, not worth getting into it with the range.

I agree, why not just ask them how they want to handle it? Then you won't have to "get into it".
