In reading the threads and dates, it looked like most people had filed online. Since I filled out a manual application, I was not sure if I'd be able to track it online. I sent an email to DPS and got a phone call back, which was nice. I asked my question and was told I would not be able to track online however; that's proved to be incorrect, which is also nice.

Sent app: 3/7
Certified receipt: 3/9
Letter back acknowleging receipt of app and requesting prints: 4/8
L1 appt: schedule 4/11

Out of curiosity i went back to the DPS CHL site after reciving my lettr and put in my info as if i had already registered online and to my surprise, my status is all there, online. I thought that might be useful for anyone else applying with the manual forms.

Online status says Application process online awaiting records.

I called today 4/8/2011 and was told status is not changing until after 4-5 weeks to get into the system.

Guess I will be counting the days for a bit longer

Feeling a bit like a kid at Christmas waiting to open that big present

mailed the stuff out on 3/17, still says waiting on receipt of required materials.

Welcome Guys/Gals, You're Late!! Ok well not really. Enjoy this forum, it's good stuff. Try not to pull your hair out while waiting and be sure not to pace in the same place, you'll wear a hole through your floor.

I find myself in the odd position of hoping my bg check takes a few more days. My birthday is in less than a week. I'm not sure if it'll matter, but i have a little hope that if it's manufactured after I wont lose a whole year by just a few days. Has anyone here had their bday in the middle of the process? How was your expiration year affected?

From what I remember in my class, the approval date is the date used, not the processing time.
So if it gets approved the day after your BD, then you get an "extra" almost year

Im still waiting. lol. Its interesting how people who turned in their stuff a couple of weeks after me are already getting their cards in the mail. Mine still says BG under review There is nothing for them to review so hopefully this waiting will end soon. My progress is in my sig.

That wasn't too bad at all. But then again I've never been arrested and I have an 03 C&R FFL so they should know my background is clear.

Very happy to see I'm not the only one waiting. I mean I wish we all had our hard earned CHL's, but at least I have company.

Here's my vent:

Feb, 21st - FAST prints with L1 (I showed up a day early because of all the icy weather) I thought the roads would be impassable.
Feb 26 - CHL Class
Feb 28 - Mailed packet
Mar 2 - packet received

Current status as of 9 Apr 2011:

Fingerprints : Under review ?????
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Proof of Special Condition : Received

Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review

I called and emailed and asked them about the fingerprints and they said they have two sets on file? I'm almost certain this is because I went to L1 the day before I was scheduled. L1 had to erase me from their system, refund the online payment I made and I had to go get a money order to pay for it in order to get them done. I wish I had just slid down there the next morning on the icy roads.

I called L1 and they assured me that there was no way for them to send two sets, but the CHL poeple said their system shows both an electronic copy and a paper copy as well. Paper, really, from where?? CHL told me to let the system clear them out in the next two weeks.

I just know it's going to get dragged out to day 60 and their gonna tell me to resubmit prints. I begged them to just let me resubmit now, but they gave me the "it's okay, you're still well within your 60 days speech.".

Meanwhile 4 other people I took the class with have already go their plastic. They have shown little to no sympathy for me!

Mine is almost the same timeline. Went information received on Mar 27, fingerprints (rolled card) went green on 4 or 5 Apr. Still waiting on BG check. I had 3 different addresses in 2 different counties in the past 5 years so it may take longer. Haven't talked to any of the other 7 people in the class since.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow morning, I'm hoping for green Fingerprints! The CHL person I spoke to said that the Fingerprints and background are tied together. In other words, background won't update until fingerprints are approved and they said the actual background part of my background check is already complete.

Fingerprints are all I need and that's supposed to be the easiest part! DPS says they have good prints and their just waiting on FBI. It's been over 5 weeks now...

...man, I was so patient until my buddies go their plastic in the mail. Now I'm just a whinny baby about the whole thing! ha ha

Still no update. The wait for just the update is unbearable. Im just hoping since im only 22 and a couple speeding tickets my BG check wont take to long
