An article that interviewed the woman says she is transgender. So the two other ladies are in a big pack of trouble as the victims minority trumps the attackers minority. It will be a hate crime now.

I bet your right. Especially if the other two girls shouted any derogatory statements about transgendered people as they beat her/him/it... not sure what to call it :???: . Regardless , it still did not deserve that kind of beating.

maybe there should be a transgender restroom at Mcdonalds, seriously a family restroom with a lock is a better idea.

Please let me pontificate on a few things:

The word transgender means whatever someone wants it to mean. It could mean a person who has had full-blown sex-change surgery or just someone who dresses and lives as a member of the opposite biological sex.

Many states do not legally recognize sex-change operations. (Texas is one of them. I don't know about Maryland.)

In any case, nothing this person did justified a beating. Even an attempted violent felony like robbery or kidnapping does not justify beating the perpetrator after the threat is ended.

Whether or not it is considered a hate crime is irrelevant. One of the suspects is a minor who is not likely certified as an adult. Therefore she will get whatever the local juvenile justice system metes out. If the adult suspect is found guilty of aggravated assault, she would be liable for a lengthy prison term (I think 99 years in Texas without bothering to look).

Some places have "one seater" bathrooms intended for use by disabled people or parents who are with a young child of the opposite sex. However, bathrooms that lock in public places create a problem that I will leave to your imagination.

ROSEDALE, Md. - Update: A judge denied Teonna Monae Brown bail at a hearing on Monday afternoon. ABC2 News' Brian Kuebler was in the courtroom and will bring you more tonight at 5 & 6.

Baltimore County Police say the 18-year-old suspect now charged with beating a transgender woman in a Rosedale McDonald's was arrested for another assault at the restaurant last summer.

According to court records, Teonna Monae Brown was charged with two counts of second degree assault in July 2010. The incident happened at the very same Rosedale McDonald's.

The revolving doors of our less than perfect justice system. ;-)

Sounded like the first assault was very similar, multiple assailants attacking repeatedly, only this time it was a mom and her two kids. "did you call me ugly" Mom only tried to get her kids to safety, her teenage daughter ended up getting drug across the floor. Mom ended up dropping the charges, not sure why.

Aside from drawing a gun on them, punching their lights out, or pepper-spraying the attackers, what do you think about finding a fire extinguisher and letting them have it with that? I'm pretty sure it would distract them.

It depends on how hard you hit them with it.

I think this would be a very bad idea. That is why they make pepper spray.
