all kidding aside, that's probably one of the neatest charts I've ever seen!
I'll have to show the ol' lady that, she's always asking how much bigger one caliber is compared to another, and what-not.

thank ya.

Do you know about Ammoguide? It contains dimensions, bullet weights, and other information about thousands of loads. You have to register to get most of the information (and pay for some of it), but they don't pester you with spam.

I have two 9mm pistols.
A Taurus PT111MP (12+1) and a XD-9 service (16+1)

I don't feel underarmed with either gun and feel I could put the round where I'm wanting it to go. I do like the higher cap of the 9mm vs the 45, but I don't feel that the 45 is inferior for any reason. or for that matter that the 9 is inferior to the 45.

I think I need a 45 just to have an excuse to get another gun ;-)

I couldn't agree more, except I have 17 to fire off if need be (hopefully I won't have to though).

The 9mm round was only "marginally" replaced by some police agencies because of the extremely poor accuracy that most LEO's have. No offense, but most LEO's do not fire their guns as much as they should, nor do they practice the correct methods. Most gun fights, as most of you know, happen well within 5 yards. If you have more than 5 yards to take someone out, I wouldn't trade my 9mm's for anything. But the startling reality that most gun fights happen within that buffer zone has really got me thinking about a 45ACP or GAP as a secondary weapon.

Did I just contradict myself?

Regardless, if you place your shots well, and practice a variety of shooting positions and scenarios, you will be OK if the situation arises that you need to skin the smoke wagon.

Just my two cents!

Not much different when looking at the differences in sizes from this illustration.

The difference comes when you're looking down the barrel... then the difference is very obvious.

Only when there isn't someone behind that gun intent on pulling the trigger. Then they all look plenty big enough!

Indeed they do!

I can tell you what the bore of a 12 gauge shotgun looks like even at 30 yds. Can tell you what it feels like to be shot too!

No, nothing criminal, (Older brother shot me while we were dove hunting as teens), its still fresh on my mind...and I'm 53 yrs. old now.

I have both 9mm. & 45 ACP. I don't feel uncomfortable carrying the 9mm.
although I mostly carry the 45. How many of us could place our shots
where we wanted them while under fire or a demanding situation.
A lot of difference in just shooting at a target and a target shooting back.
A well placed 9mm. I think would be just as effective as a 45. if placed right.

A well known hunter and riffleman John Jobson, to prove what a well placed bullit
would do took a model 70 in 270 cal. to Africa and killed everything
from a lion to elephant.

Its not the size that counts its how you use it...(every bodies heard that before, right?)

If bigger is so much better then why are rifle rounds so small?
